First impressions of the spring ’14 anime I’m watching

Now that I’ve seen two episodes of all the spring ’14 anime on my watch list (except for Mekaku City Actors, which has only one episode out so far) I figured it’s time to once again write my initial impressions of them…

Reflections on Silver Spoon and the use of animals in agriculture

Even though I’ve watched both seasons of Silver Spoon (Gin no Saji) I didn’t include either in my seasonal anime reviews because I wanted to write about the series in a way that would require it to have its own post. I didn’t feel like giving it a standard review because it has particular themes I want to go into depth about, much like I did with my post about ambiguity in Nisemonogatari. The reason I wanted to do this with Silver Spoon is because it deals with a subject matter I’m very interested in – how animals are treated in the farming industry…

Winter ’14 anime reviews part 1: Inari Kon Kon, Chuunibyou Ren, Golden Time

I can’t believe it’s spring already! The end of the season kinda sneaked up on me this year. I’ve been caught up in a lot of social engagements and other things these past few weeks. I haven’t even thought about what spring anime I’m interested in yet. However, I have been finishing up all the one-cour winter and two-cour fall anime I’ve been watching. Like last season, I’ll be reviewing them over two different posts starting with Inari Kon Kon, Chuunibyou Ren, and Golden Time…

Name that anime #2

I have little time for extensive blogging this week unfortunately – I have four long shifts at work and my three days off have been occupied with other things, mostly celebrating my birthday, which was on Wednesday. So once again I felt it was time to do a short post, another “name that anime” to follow up the first one from 4 months ago…

Has hype ever ruined an anime for you?

Every time a new season of anime comes around, or even when discussions happen to bring up past titles that were very popular, you hear people say things like “It was overhyped,” “Don’t give into the hype,” and “The hype ruined it for me.” But what exactly is meant by that and can the hype of a show really affect your personal viewing experience?…

Being bullied for liking anime

Whenever your tastes and hobbies fall out of the norm, you run the risk of being called out by those who don’t approve of anything “different.” Anime, being the niche medium that it is, is a likely thing to be put down about by classmates, family members, coworkers, etc., who, in all likelihood, have a distorted, ignorant view of what anime is. Luckily I haven’t had to experience any extreme pressure at school, work, or home about my anime obsession, but I have had a few incidents that I wanted to share…

A dose of Pokemon humor

Don’t worry, this is the only special feeling meme on the post!

Lately I’ve made it a habit of saving funny anime and other related memes and pictures I come across on Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, etc., onto my hard drive for later use. It’s fun to not only chuckle at them myself a second time, but to show them to friends later on and brighten up their day XD I’ve amassed quite a collection of hilarious Pokemon pictures among them and felt it was time to share some on the blog…

My 10 unpopular anime opinions

Today’s post idea came from Artemis over on the Otaku Lounge (who got it from Guy Shalve…I love how post ideas get around the blogsphere!) It sounded like a fun topic to think about so I decided to give it a try…

Photos of my anime-filled room (2014 edition)

Decorating my room with posters, figures, plushies, etc., from anime and other media I love has been a big thing for me for many years. After all, my room is where I spend most of my time when I’m not at work/school, so why not cover it with things I love? I started posting photos of my room in 2008, and again in 2009 and 2012 as I’ve changed/rearranged things (the 2009 post actually got featured in ANN’s Shelf Life column!) Now it’s been a little over two years since I posted my last room photos and I finally feel that things have changed enough for me to share new ones…
