Hi all, I’m finally back with a new post since I’m on vacation until after New Year’s and I wanted to say a few words on some of the recent anime I’ve watched…

Structuring an anime review

Although my blog is mostly focused on editorial posts about anime and related topics, the other kind of post I enjoy writing is full series reviews of anime I complete each season. If you’ve read other anime reviews, you know that reviewers tend to have their own styles for reviewing anime, whether it’s more on the structured side or the “anything goes” side…

Another season of anime is coming to an end, and three out of the five I finished – Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, Parasyte, and Shirobako – were actually leftover two-cours from fall. I only watched two actual winter ’15 anime, Virgin Witch Maria and Death Parade, both of which are only one-cour and end(ed) this season. I knew that cramming them all on one post would be too much, so I decided to break them up by reviewing these three today and the other two next week. So yes, here are my thoughts on Shigatsu Uso, Parasyte, and Death Parade…

My 5 favorite anime of 2014

It’s once again time for me to look back on all the anime I watched this year and decide which 5 were my favorites. Some years it’s easy for me to pick, other years it’s not so easy. I actually didn’t watch quite as much anime in 2014 as I did in previous years due to being busy with work, school, and other hobbies, so it wasn’t too difficult to narrow down my favorites this time…

Summer ’14 anime reviews part 1: Tokyo Ghoul and Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-kun

The summer 2014 anime season is coming to an end and once again I’ll be reviewing the series that I watched all the way through. Only two ended this week, so I’ll be reviewing the remaining four next time. So for now, what did I think of one of the most horrifying and one of the funniest anime I’ve seen in a while?…

Reflections on Silver Spoon and the use of animals in agriculture

Even though I’ve watched both seasons of Silver Spoon (Gin no Saji) I didn’t include either in my seasonal anime reviews because I wanted to write about the series in a way that would require it to have its own post. I didn’t feel like giving it a standard review because it has particular themes I want to go into depth about, much like I did with my post about ambiguity in Nisemonogatari. The reason I wanted to do this with Silver Spoon is because it deals with a subject matter I’m very interested in – how animals are treated in the farming industry…

Winter ’14 anime reviews part 1: Inari Kon Kon, Chuunibyou Ren, Golden Time

I can’t believe it’s spring already! The end of the season kinda sneaked up on me this year. I’ve been caught up in a lot of social engagements and other things these past few weeks. I haven’t even thought about what spring anime I’m interested in yet. However, I have been finishing up all the one-cour winter and two-cour fall anime I’ve been watching. Like last season, I’ll be reviewing them over two different posts starting with Inari Kon Kon, Chuunibyou Ren, and Golden Time…
