Photos of my anime-covered room (2012 version)

*Click the image for a larger version*

Every year since 2008 I’ve taken photos of my room, which is covered in anime, and posted them here on the blog. Even though I’ve lived in the same house all these years, I get new anime stuff every year and the design of my room changes accordingly. So here’s the 2012 version…

(I apologize if there’s an obvious glare in some of the photos. The flash wasn’t cooperating)

We’ll start with the area where I spend most of my time; in front of my 40″ HDTV that’s also hooked up to my computer.

Here’s a closer look at the shelves under the TV where I keep my Blu-ray player and a bunch of DVDs/BDs. Starting from left to right on the top shelf is my Wolf’s Rain and Trigun box sets, then my Harry Potter and Lion King BD box sets, followed by a few other random movies. The bottom shelf has my Inuyasha and Cardcaptor Sakura DVDs, as well as all my GameCube and Wii games.

My TV is connected to my computer/Internet, cable, Wii, and BD player, so I basically use it for everything :3 On either side of the TV you can see my Bose speakers, which give great audio for all these devices. On the shelf directly below the TV is the cable box and Wii.

Next to the TV is my old computer desk that I now use as a place to hold and display things. The top part is now home to figures, plushies, and remotes, while the bottom is where I keep my computer and bass for the speakers (they’re behind the Pokemon puzzle).

A closer look at the figures and plushies on the desk. The top shelf is my “Haruhi shrine” and right below it is the “Chopper shrine,” so I’ll always be able to see my two favorite characters ^_^ More figures on the left and plushies of Chi and Chibiterasu are sitting on the printer.

Moving on to the wall next to the desk. That tall poster is one I printed of Harry Potter drawn anime-style. A Pokemon reji-sheet I bought while in Japan covers the window (it only goes up to 492 pokemon), and below that are more random posters, mostly Cardcaptor Sakura and Death Note.

—–

Next to that is the area above my bed. Pictures from various anime and my old Fushigi Yuugi wall scroll that’s now been hanging there for eight years. To the left of the scroll are my badges from non-AX conventions I’ve been. I have that pink pillow case covering my air conditioner during the winter when I don’t use it. Can you spot the two Nana keychains hanging from the blinds next to it?

—–

And here’s the actual bed, with my Inuyasha throw on it. That turquoise pillow in the back is actually a folding Pokemon pillow of Oshawott. And in the way back is my big Pikachu plush that I’ve been sleeping with since middle school.

The wall above my bed is now the Madoka wall, with two fan art pieces and a printed poster I put together. Below those is the Haruhi 2012 calendar poster. And hanging to the left are badges from the now five Anime Expos I’ve been to. Hanging on the other side are two keychains of Niche, my favorite character from Tegami Bachi.

To the right of my bed is the pink desk I’ve had since I was in elementary school. The chair that went with it broke a few years ago so I keep my Haruhi jigsaw puzzle in its place and bring in a chair from another room if I need to sit there. Lots of Pokemon figures and plushies on the desk, as well as the Japanese learning books I’m currently using for studying.

The wall above the desk, with more posters, including my large Haruhi poster that I got signed by the English VAs at AX 2007. The tall black shelf is where I keep the rest of my anime DVD/BD collection.

A closer look at the anime DVDs/BDs inside the shelf.

The first closet door with more posters – Shana, Inuyasha, and a really old Yu-Gi-Oh! poster. The kanji picture on the bottom left is calligraphy I did while in Japan (it’s the kanji for “yume (dream)”) Hanging above are various tassels from the two colleges I graduated from.

—–

*Click the image for a larger version*

And the next closet door, which is mostly covered by a custom-made poster I put together of 646 pokemon. The two posters below it are covers of the two oldest Pokemon calendars I have, the 2000 calendars (one’s the Japanese version, the other’s the English version). Oh, and the top right cabinet has an AnoHana art piece I got from AX 2011.

—–

*Click the image for a larger version*

The wall above my bookshelf. This year I have the Pokemon 2012 calendar (last year I had Angel Beats!) Evangelion and Kannagi pictures are around it, and a row of plushies are sitting on the top of the bookshelf.

—–

*Click the image for a larger version*

The books inside my bookshelf. From left to right, the top shelf has some manga and other related books, mostly in Japanese, the English versions of the Haruhi novels that have been released thus far, and some Japan books. The second shelf has random literature books, animal books, and a bunch of novels by Japanese authors I read in college. And the bottom shelf has a few more Japanese lit books, Calvin & Hobbes collections, anime artbooks, Japanese learning books, and some anime magazines.

—–

*Click the image for a larger version*

And the last wall of my room, with the door closed. More posters, mostly of Code Geass and the Haruhi movie poster I got when I went to see it in theaters.

That same area with the door open this time.

Here’s the chair that faces the TV, where I spend most of my time. The Kyubey plushie keeps watch over me while I work :3

My cat, Toki…she approves of this room.

Hope you all enjoyed the tour~ I’ll be back with a regular post in a few days =)

No Comments… read them or add your own.

  1. BeldenOtaku says:

    Now I’m sad and jealous….

  2. Alvin B. says:

Wow, I do not come close to measuring up. I just have random electronics parts coming out my ears.

  3. skorpigeist says:

I like the look of this room. I currently don’t have such a place to show off all the nice things that I have, and my cat would be the kind to tear up anything that wasn’t within jumping distance (which for him is surprisingly high)

    • Yumeka says:

Thanks! You live in a studio apartment, right? Yeah, it’s hard to display things in a place like that, but a few things could work. I did hear that your cat is a destructive force, though. Cats do tend to mellow with age so hopefully yours will, too.

      • skorpigeist says:

This is true. He is already starting to mellow out.

The truth is that I will be moving sometime in the next few months anyway, and so it is best to keep it easy to travel until I get a more permanent (greater than 2 year) residence.

  4. chikorita157 says:

Quite facinating that I have the same exact speakers sitting on my desk (hooked up to my laptop computer), although I think there are better ones out there, but whatever. My room is too messy that I’m embarrassed to show it, so… (I’ll clean it out, someday… when I stop being lazy)

It’s quite amazing how everything changed in the matter of years… I took a look back at my DVD collection and now it has grew a lot… Although I have limited funds, I have some money to use to buy more and even CDs.

    • Yumeka says:

You have the same speakers? Nice. I think there were three levels of those Bose Companion speakers graded by price/quality. The one we have is the middle one, which is good enough for me ;)

Since I’ve lived in the same house for over twenty years, my room has certainly gone through changes; when I was in elementary school my walls used to have just a few posters of things popular in the 90s, like Power Rangers and The Lion King. In middle school I was into Beanie Babies and had lots of posters of that, then it was just Pokemon, and now it’s anime =D

  5. Myna says:

    I like the Madoka wall~
But my goodness, you certainly do have an obscene amount of stuff.

I haven’t had an anime calendar in a couple of years.

    • Yumeka says:

I do have a lot of stuff…surprisingly my total collection doesn’t amount to much monetary value considering how long I’ve been into anime. I’m just good at displaying it and collecting things at good prices ;) Plus I’ve lived in the same house for practically my whole life, so you can imagine how much stuff has accumulated over the years (I’ve never had to do a moving sale for one XD)

  6. Cirris says:

You know your entertainment setup is a pretty good idea. Using the flat screen as your PC monitor. Then lounging back in the recliner instead of hunched over at a PC desk. i should consider a setup like that. Although I do dabble in PC gaming here and there.

    • Yumeka says:

The idea of using a recliner chair for the computer rather than a regular chair came to me a few years ago when I found a used recliner on the street that someone was giving away for free. I took it home and would watch anime on my laptop, which I’d put on a table in front of the chair. I still had to use my regular chair for my desktop computer/Internet because the wires wouldn’t reach when I leaned back on the chair…until I realized I could go wireless with the mouse and keyboard! Then I got the HD TV and hooked it up to the computer…and now it’s the perfect setup =D

  7. Travis says:

I like it. I see some of the same posters and stuff that I have in my condo.

  8. Adziu says:

Wowee, that’s…very bright! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like it. Oh wait, I do have one friend – her walls are totally covered with anime posters too.

I like the Chii and Chibiterasu.

    • Yumeka says:

Thanks! I got the idea for the whole “covering every inch of wall space with pictures of the hobby you love” from a friend of mine back when were both immensely into Pokemon. She covered her whole room with Pokemon posters/pictures/stickers and I liked the idea. My room is my haven and I want to always be able to look around and see things I love ^_^

Oh, and I see you have a gravatar now. Nice.

  9. lostty says:

You don’t even understand how jealous I am of your Cardcaptor Sakura DVD collection. Which edition is your Neon Genesis complete collection by the way?

Also your tv/computer is totally badass. You have a super cool room! Thanks for posting the photos!

    • Yumeka says:

I was very lucky to get those CCS DVDs. It was a fluke holiday sale at AnimeNation back in 2006 when they were selling all 18 DVDs for just $75. They’re now going for hundreds of dollars on eBay o_O I’m glad I got them when I did.

My Eva collection is pretty old…I got it back in 2002 and all it says on the box is “perfect collection.” It has the eight DVDs from ADV, which I believe were also sold separately. I do have the director’s cut version of the last two DVDs though.

  10. Cytrus says:

Incidentally, I also have my “夢” calligraphy on the wall… Are all anime fans hopeless romantics or what?

But the only obviously anime-related things I have on display in my room are two pokemon plushies from way back when. I lack the willpower to explain to my distant relatives why I dare cover my walls with perverted Japanese cartoons…

    • Yumeka says:

I wrote “yume” because of its connection to my site’s name. But yes, it is a popular character among English-speakers interested in kanji ^^

Well, since my family is pretty much only my mom, and usually the only people that come to our house are friends of mine that like anime already, I rarely have to feel embarrassed about how my room looks. Most people find it pretty cool and don’t pry. The only time it’s awkward is when workmen like painters, technicians, etc., have to come into my room for whatever reason. But they usually just do their work and don’t ask questions about it.

  11. Savo says:

You have quite a collection there… it kind of makes me want to buy some anime posters for my room haha.

    • Yumeka says:

Thanks~ You don’t have to go all out like I do, but having a poster or two of the things you love in your room can really make it more comforting.

  12. f0calizer says:

I love the last photo most of all. Toki is the cutest cat! =^.^=

  13. Marlo says:

    Your room is fantastic! :D

  14. Valence says:

Makes me think of my childhood when I stuck random pokemon cards on the wall…

    • Yumeka says:

I had a Pokemon-covered room several years ago before it branched out into an anime room. While I wouldn’t stick Pokemon cards on my walls, when I was really into The Lion King in elementary school I would cut out pictures from Lion King coloring books and tape them to my walls XD

  15. Kal says:

    Awesome looking as always.

  16. Relic says:

Whoa! My room is the same size but WAY LESS bright. It’s personalized with games and movie posters, main stream stuff. I’m only in there for when a 360 game comes out that’s worth playing(dead space 2 a year ago) and sleeping though. I want a good Evangelion poster.

    • Yumeka says:

Sounds nice…more diverse than my room XD

Now that you mention it, I haven’t found an Evanglion poster I’ve especially liked. If you saw in the photo of the plushies on the bookshelf, the only Eva pictures I have are a pencil board from Eva 2.0 and a Death & Rebirth mini-poster that came with the DVD.

  17. AceRailgun says:

It look like you are running out of wall space. You might have to start sticking stuff to the ceiling.

    Good collection.

  18. Yumeka says:

Thanks~ Unfortunately I can’t stick anything on the ceiling because it’s made of asbestos =/

  19. Nopy says:

I see you’re quite the Haruhi and Pokemon fan, I love it. I wish I had a TV to watch anime on, but then I’d have to get rid of my two monitors to make room for it.

  20. Kate says:

I can’t get over your Harry Potter poster! Then I read you printed it — do you have a high res link for those of us who might do the same?

Also, your Chopper shrine cracks me up. Thanks for sharing your room!

  21. OtakuStudy says:

    That Chi Plushie…..

    <3

  22. Tara says:

    Every year I am insanely jealous of your awesome stuff >w< I hope I'll be able to have just half as good a collection at some point… probably after moving to another country where I can actually get stuff like that ^^;;
Manyways, your room is made of awesome and epicness.

  23. Wow, impressive. Most people I seen with spreads like that seem like they rooms are total wrecks. This probably the most organized and neatness of rooms I seen by photograph. Looks like the cat finds it comfortable too ^^

  24. 5th floor says:

Is it bad that I practically recognized all of your posters, plushies, etc. without even having to look anything up? (Most of them I recognize from my browsing times. Other’s I am watching or have watched and some of those like pokemon, haruhi suzumiya, and FMA are just universally acknowledged in my world. :D) And where did you get the haruhi novels in english? I can’t find ’em anywhere! But to get back to the point I’m trying to get to, I am very impressed with your room and how everything still works together even though there’s such a variety. :)

  25. Overlord-G says:

I would be happy with a few nendoroids and plushies. Mad props to your excellent otaku room and collection. Also kudos to the Chibiterasu plushie. How could a badass wolf goddess give birth to such an adorable macho puppy (or rather cub)? So much undeniable cuteness.

    Anyway, great room dood.

  26. nicejha lasucre says:

hi im glad to see your collection…………..

  27. Walao says:

Damn it, that recliner chair is a stroke of pure genius.

  28. lhey justine G pateño says:

    i like your anime

  29. Otaku_56 says:

And I thought my room was small!…. you are really good at putting things in the right places, I’m so jelous(:

  30. Monica says:

wow. i wish i had this kind of room :) do you have a twitter account? i have alot of things to ask :) thank you :)
