2016 is the 20th anniversary of my most influential franchises, one that has continually brought me joy for over half of my life and still shows no sign of letting up. The Pokemon Company has been celebrating “#Pokemon20” since the beginning of the year with various game promotions, special events, and exclusive store merchandise as fans celebrate the nostalgic days of Pokemon while also getting hyped for the next generation of games with Sun/Moon. Being the Pokemon fan that I am, and with Sun/Moon just a few days away, I couldn’t resist doing something special to celebrate my fandom on a personal level. So I put together a scrapbook of all the Pokemon paper goods I’ve collected over the years – pamphlets, stickers, flyers, postcards, bookmarks, CD booklets, VHS covers, TCG badge booklets, and anything else that could fit in a scrapbook…

Photos of my Frozen collection

If you’ve seen some of my tweets (or a couple of blog posts) during the past year, you’ll know that I’ve been obsessed with Disney’s hit movie, Frozen. I can always gauge how much I like something by how much money I’m driven to spend on it, and since I first saw Frozen, I’ve amassed quite a collection of merchandise that I’ve been wanting to share…

Photos of my anime-filled room (2014 edition)

Decorating my room with posters, figures, plushies, etc., from anime and other media I love has been a big thing for me for many years. After all, my room is where I spend most of my time when I’m not at work/school, so why not cover it with things I love? I started posting photos of my room in 2008, and again in 2009 and 2012 as I’ve changed/rearranged things (the 2009 post actually got featured in ANN’s Shelf Life column!) Now it’s been a little over two years since I posted my last room photos and I finally feel that things have changed enough for me to share new ones…

A concise guide to Weiss Schwarz

Due to lack of time and brainpower for editorial blogging this week, I’m going to post about something I’m always looking to promote – the anime crossover card game I’ve been into for roughly the past year: Weiss Schwarz…

Haruhi Hyakka review

*Post last updated: 07/15/13*

This week a brand new artbook for the Haruhi Suzumiya series was released called Haruhi Hyakka/ハルヒ百花(“hyakka” meaning “many kinds of flowers”). It features all of the recent artwork by the series’ character designer, Noizi Itou, as well as a new short story written by the novel author, Nagaru Tanigawa. Being the major Haruhi fan that I am, I of course had to get a copy and felt like sharing a brief review of it…

Buying anime

Since I became an anime fan over a decade ago, I’ve been buying all sorts of anime products ranging from DVDs to artbooks and keychains. However, as I discussed in a previous post about how the US anime industry, and the media world in general, has changed over the years, my ways of buying anime couldn’t help but change as well…

Photos of my anime-covered room (2012 version)

*Click the image for a larger version*

Every year since 2008 I’ve taken photos of my room, which is covered in anime, and posted them here on the blog. Even though I’ve lived in the same house all these years, I get new anime stuff every year and the design of my room changes accordingly. So here’s the 2012 version…

The wonders of anime apparel and always having anime on your person

Being the major anime fan that I am, it’s hard for me to imagine not owning any piece of anime apparel. I realize that it’s not always appropriate to advertise anime on your person, but for the most part, I feel more like myself when carrying something anime on me, whether it’s the shirt on my back, a bag holding my belongings, or a keychain for my car keys. So what exactly are the appeals of advertising your anime fandom when out in real life…

My experience with bootleg anime products

If you’ve been an anime consumer for any length of time, I’m sure you know that there’s a ton of bootleg anime products out there. From biggies like DVDs and figures to minute things like posters and pins, bootleg products can be found in stores, online, and anywhere anime is sold. I wouldn’t say I’m obsessive when it comes to buying only guaranteed official products, but with few exceptions I’ve recently been making a conscious effort to avoid bootlegs…

My anime collection

In past posts, I’ve taken photos of my anime-covered room and highlighted the gems of my anime collection. But I haven’t yet talked about my actual collection of anime DVDs. Despite being into anime for eleven years now, I haven’t accumulated all that many series on DVD, mostly due to lack of funds for many years and only wanting to buy titles I especially like. Since a list of my anime video library isn’t too long for a post, and since a lot of my DVDs have a story behind them, I felt like giving them some attention…
