My favorite and least favorite anime cliches

As much as we love anime, there’s no denying that the medium is, for better or worse, full of cliches. But as I’ve mentioned in past posts, this isn’t always a bad thing; I’m of the opinion that a cliche doesn’t necessarily equal poor writing if it carries out an appealing cliche well or adds something memorable to it. A certain magical Index that’s lacking

About a year ago I watched To Aru Kagaku no Railgun and found it very well written and enjoyable. I knew it was a side-story of another series, To Aru Majutsu no Index, which I hadn’t yet seen. However, I wanted to keep up my New Year’s tradition of picking my five favorite anime from the passing year…

I came up with this idea a while back and have been wanting to try it out. It’s a pretty random project I know, but I thought it would be fun. Turns out, I had a blast making it, so I hope you’ll derive at least some amusement from it too…

Anime worlds I would like to visit

A couple of weeks ago, Caraniel came up with a great idea for a post that entails thinking about which of the various anime worlds you would like to visit. I thought it would be a fun thing to try, so like Caraniel, I came up with a list of five worlds in anime I would enjoy spending time in…

There are two types of character development in anime…

When asked what one of the most appealing aspects of anime is, fans will usually mention character development. However, I’ve often wondered exactly what defines character development, at least in terms of anime narratives. Over the years, I’ve come up with two prominent types of anime character development, though I’m still debating whether that’s what they should both be called…
