Anime worlds I would like to visit

A couple of weeks ago, Caraniel came up with a great idea for a post that entails thinking about which of the various anime worlds you would like to visit. I thought it would be a fun thing to try, so like Caraniel, I came up with a list of five worlds in anime I would enjoy spending time in…

The only requirement I set for the list is that the world has to be a fictional one not meant to be a realistic representation of the real world unless it’s a futuristic or otherwise fictional twist on it that makes it vastly different from the one in reality. For example, the world of K-ON! wouldn’t count because it’s just an anime version of Japan in real life. However, the world of Eden of the East would count because, even though it’s also Japan, it’s a futuristic and fictional version of it.

So without further adieu, here are the anime worlds I would like to visit:

5. The Blue Sea…and beyond (One Piece)

My desire to visit the Blue Sea, the sea spanning the enormous world of One Piece, could perhaps stem from my love for the ocean, but there are other reasons, too. The Blue Sea, and places beyond, comprise so many different worlds, from the heavenly realm of Skypiea to the deserts of Alabastar, each filled with a myriad of colorful characters and creatures. With the main mode of transportation between the many places in One Piece being ships on the sea, there’s this sense of unmatched freedom and adventure as you feel the vastness and limitless possibilities of the ocean around you.

Another interesting part of the One Piece world is the Devil Fruits. You never know what kind of ability you could gain, and they could either be blessings or curses. Lots of terrible and wonderful events go down because of these fruits.

Unfortunately, the Blue Sea has its share of really nasty dudes like Crocodile and Enel, and its share of twisted politics too. But there are also plenty of truly great heroes like Luffy and friends who make up for all the bad.

What I would do during my visit: I’m not much of a daredevil adventurer, so I would just go on a mini ocean voyage to the more pretty and peaceful places on the Blue Sea. And if I was able to, I would find myself a Devil Fruit to my liking, though I would probably never have the guts to eat it.

4. Academy City (Railgun)

I’m sure a school where you can learn psychic powers is wish fulfillment for many people. Even if I were like Saten and didn’t have any powers, I think it would be fascinating hanging out with people who do, and learning about that stuff in general.

Academy City itself seems like a fun, relaxed, clean (love the trash collecting robots), and basically inviting place for young people. Of course, if you’re dealing with psychic powers, it can be dangerous if people want to use those powers for bad things. But with Antiskill and Judgment on the lookout, I wouldn’t worry too much.

What I would do during my visit: Enroll in some classes and see if I have any psychic powers. If I don’t, I still would love learning about it anyway. If I do, I’d try to enhance them as much as possible. I would also want to make some psychic friends.

3. The age of Persocoms (Chobits)

The concept of Persocoms like those seen in Chobits has always fascinated me. Considering some of the robots that Japan has created already, I really do wonder what it would be like living in an age where machines can be exact replicas of human beings. If machines can have feelings and emotions, it would make us question them in ourselves even further, and I believe that would be a good thing for us to do.

Creating machines that are just like humans has been a common sci-fi trope, especially when it comes to portraying them in a negative light as far as taking away jobs and overall value for real humans. Even though Chobits makes it seem innocent and pleasant, I still would only want to visit the Persocom age and not live in it.

What I would do during my visit: Get a Persocom of course, and experience for myself if machines can really have feelings and see what truly separates us from them.

2. The realm of mushi (Mushishi)

Not only is the world of Mushishi very beautiful, the mushi themselves are extremely fascinating. Their connection to life and death, and the many strange effects they have on things, would be quite a wondrous phenomena to experience. I’m interested in the natural and the supernatural, and mushi are made up of both.

What I would do during my visit: Find a mushishi who would lead me to mushi and teach me about them. If I get tired of wandering around with the mushishi, I’ll find a nice little spot for myself out in nature and study them on my won.

1. The Pokemon world (Pokemon)

The world of so many kids’ dreams and one that I’ve dreamed of going to for almost half my life. The Pokemon world has so many enticing things about it – for starters, hundreds of extraordinary creatures willing to befriend and fight for their human trainers, and a safe environment where even kids can wander around with their pokemon from town to town without worry. It has advanced technology, i.e., the poke ball and pokemon trading systems, but there’s still much of a tie to nature with all of the forests, etc., left unscathed for the pokemon who dwell there. Little war and strife and lots of fun, excitement, and personal growth with cute and cool creatures. This is definitely one world I wouldn’t mind living in rather than just visiting.

What I would do during my visit: Catch, train, fly on, swim on, travel around with, and cuddle lots of pokemon!

So, what anime worlds would you like to visit? I opted for “tamer” worlds for my list because honestly, most anime worlds seem to be pretty dangerous or corrupted even if they appear “awesome.” Or it could be that I’m just not daring =P

No Comments… read them or add your own.

  1. exs120 says:

    I say Neo-Venezia!

  2. Dop says:

    I second exs120.
Neo-Venezia would be the ideal chill-out spot for a vacation. Explore the city in the company of gorgeous undines!

I’d also like to go for a coffee at Alpha’s cafe. (Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou – which counts as there were two OVAs!)

  3. Yumeka says:

    @ exs120 and @ Dop

Apparently I haven’t seen the anime that Neo-Venezia comes from since I’ve never heard of it. Which anime is it?

  4. Myna says:

Definitely agree that Pokemon world is number one.

some of the anime worlds I’d like to visit are Piffle and the Hanshin Republic from TsubasaRC, Mid Childa from Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, Amestris or Xing from FMA…..eh, I’ll think of more later xD

  5. Yumeka says:

    @ Myna

There are as many reasons to want to go to the Pokemon world as there are pokemon~

I almost put Amestris/Xing from FMA on the list. The main attraction there would be alchemy, which is cool and all but not something I’m dying to experience. Also seems kind of dangerous with all the corrupt state alchemists, wars, etc,. If I were to visit, I would just want to chill in a pretty, peaceful place like Resembool =)

  6. Caraniel says:

Oh wow, I’m pleased that my post inspired you!

Nice choices too. I rejected One Piece because the world is just so vast – you’d need a lot of time to see everything I’d want to see……plus I get awfully seasick so don’t think it would be the best world for me to drop in on!

I agree that the Raildex world would be interesting – I may not like either of the series set there, but definitely like the world.

I was considering putting Eve no Jikan in my own list for similar reasons to your reasons for chosing Chobits; but decided that such realistic robots would be a bit too frightening!

I’d love to drop into Mushishi purely to meet Ginko – he’s a fascinating character!

I never even thought of Pokemon, but can see the appeal now that you’ve written about it!

  7. Yumeka says:

    @ Caraniel

    Thanks for the inspiration ^.^

Yeah, the One Piece world is pretty vast. But I didn’t specify how long I would be in any of these worlds, so if I had a few months of vacation time there, I could see a lot of it XD

but decided that such realistic robots would be a bit too frightening!

LOL, yeah, the Persocoms in Chobits would be cute at first, but I think after a while the whole concept of it would frighten me too =P

  8. Odin Force says:

If it is just visiting, I wouldn’t mind visit any anime world that is slightly different from our reality’s world. After all, it is just “visiting”.

But “living” is a different thing. If you are to visit an anime world and there’s a risk that you might not be able to return, what world would you choose will reflect your own personality.

For me, it would be the Full Metal Panic world. It’s not too different from our current world, but have enough cool technologies for me to stay and learn. That, even quite a plain reason, is enough for an engineer student like me.

  9. Yumeka says:

    @ Odin Force

Yeah, visiting and living in are two very different things. I too wouldn’t mind visiting any anime world that’s different as long as I wouldn’t be risking my life (or sanity) by just visiting =P Many anime worlds seem pretty risky to me though, but then again, the world in reality is risky too. So far, the Pokemon world is the only anime world I may actually want to live in.

  10. f0calizer says:

Yes, definitely Neo-Venezia. It’s from the ARIA anime series: basically Mars has been terraformed into a waterworld, and the capital city is literally a New Venice, with gondolas and all.

On a different note, I’d also like to go to the world of Cowboy Bebop. It’s like the wild west, only in space! Adventure awaits in a world where Welsh corgis are more intelligent than your average human. :)

  11. Yumeka says:

    @ f0calizer

Ah, I see, thanks for the info. I’ve heard good things about Aria so I should check it out one day.

I was thinking about the Cowboy Bebop world, but the idea of humans littering up Earth so much that they have to extend their civilization to other planets, and start polluting outer space as well, didn’t appeal to me very much. But if it’s just a quick visit, I guess it would be interesting =)

  12. Wingless says:

I’d love to visit the Shakugan No Shana version of our world. Is that too similar, even with all the magic and what not? It’d be my quest to become a flame haze. :P

  13. Yumeka says:

    @ Wingless

The Shakugan no Shana world is definitely different enough to count since other worldly forces play a major role. I dunno, being a Flame Haze seems like a repetitive, thankless job that makes you grow detached…but it has its excitements and rewards too I suppose.

  14. Canne says:

I want to visit the world of paper masters where books are properly treated and libraries are more powerful than any government :)

  15. Yumeka says:

    @ Canne

Never seen that anime before but it sounds awesome XD

  16. The world of Fairy tail wouldnt be bad as well =)
    magic etc!

  17. Yumeka says:

    @ Fabrice

I’ve only seen a little of Fairy Tail. I didn’t like it that much, but the world it takes place in (Fiore was it?) is very cool. Similar sense of freedom and adventure as One Piece except with magic guilds instead of ocean voyages.

  18. Joe says:

Co-signed on Cowboy Bebop. Space is the place.

  19. Yumeka says:

    @ Joe

See my reply to f0calizer =)

  20. KyonzumiNagato13 says:

The world of Haruhi Suzumiya wouldn’t be bad at all for me.

  21. Yumeka says:

    @ KyonzumiNagato13

I wasn’t sure whether to count the Haruhi world since it’s mostly like ours except that there are some aliens, time travelers, and espers secretly walking among us. If you mean a world where Haruhi is “god,” as much as I love her, I don’t think I’d want to be there XD

  22. Jan Suzukawa says:

Anime worlds I’d like to visit:

    – The Pokemon world looks safe and friendly.
    – The DRRR version Ikebukuro would be fun and lively. I could try Russian sushi. I would have to avoid Shizuo’s hurled vending machines, and falling into Izaya’s clutches, however. ;)
    – Soul Society

Anime worlds to avoid at all costs:

    – NERV
    – Hinamizawa (the quaint little Japanese village… where children torture each other to death)

I’ll probably think of others after I hit “Post Comment.” ;)

  23. Yumeka says:

    @ Jan

I wasn’t sure whether to count Durarara!! since it’s supposed to be a fairly realistic representation of life in Ikebukuro – but I guess it has enough fictional twists to make it different =)

I gave a thought to Soul Society, but I don’t think it would be that interesting unless you’re one of the shinigami Captains/Vice Captains. If you are (or at least you’re allowed to follow them around), then yeah, it would be cool =D

Caraniel also wrote a post about worlds not to visit. Maybe some day I’ll do that too. Off the top of my head, any world that’s extremely dangerous or post-apocalyptic/imminently doomed with little beauty or fun left (Wolf’s Rain, World Destruction), I would want to avoid.

  24. mrwan says:

Airantou without Ikuto. And when everyone becomes of age.

  25. Yumeka says:

    @ mrwan

Don’t know that anime but sure, why not? XD

  26. Glo says:

The first thing that came to mind was Pokemon. God that would be awesome.

I think it would also be awesome to visit One Piece, DBZ, and personally, Black Lagoon is a life I have always yearned for.

  27. Yumeka says:

    @ Glo

Yes, good choices. I still need to watch Black Lagoon though =)

  28. Mikoto says:

The anime version of the Pokemon universe is definitely the Pokemon universe I’d want to live in most, since it’s less seriously dangerous things happen there compared to the games and manga; I can just chill. lol

Cardcaptor Sakura’s world is another preferable world. A peaceful world devoid of prejudice – I can just relax and live a happy life. =)

  29. Yumeka says:

    @ Mikoto

Yes, the anime version of the Pokemon world seems to be the most tame. But the games are not too bad either.

Heh, I remember when I first watched Cardcaptor Sakura in Japanese (the first anime I ever watched in Japanese actually) and I thought how nice everyone is and how peaceful and clean the town is. I wondered if Japanese people really were that polite and caring and if Japan was really that pleasant. Now that I’ve been to Japan a couple of times, I say there is a little truth to it =)

  30. Yi says:

Pokemon ranks as number 1 too! I love that world. No financial worries, travelling with your buddies around the world, training Pokemon and meeting new people. Such a carefree world.

  31. KyonzumiNagato13 says:

    @Yumeka

I would certainly hate (Secretly really like) to be in the Haruhi world if that’s the case, if I’m directly associated with Ms. Suzumiya, that is.

Academy City wouldn’t be bad either, although, I’ll be considered as one of the Child Errors thing.

  32. Spade says:

Pokemon ar… I remembered a time when I dreamt of living in that world as well.

but talking about pokemon does bring back the memory of a english teacher that sheepishly admitted that pokemon was a show worth watching. I had not paid attention till that point in time, for it was just random talking in the middle of the lesson (waiting for the lesson to continue). Then, somehow, ppl started to make a lot of noises, and he admited that he had no idea that pokemon was so … educational (!?) until he accidentally saw it on the TV.
