The beginning of the end for Haruhi

I was originally going to write this post a couple of months from now (for a reason I’ll explain later) but with the recent news that the Haruhi manga series will be ending on its next chapter, I decided that now would be just as good a time…

Haruhi Hyakka review

*Post last updated: 07/15/13*

This week a brand new artbook for the Haruhi Suzumiya series was released called Haruhi Hyakka/ハルヒ百花(“hyakka” meaning “many kinds of flowers”). It features all of the recent artwork by the series’ character designer, Noizi Itou, as well as a new short story written by the novel author, Nagaru Tanigawa. Being the major Haruhi fan that I am, I of course had to get a copy and felt like sharing a brief review of it…

Remembering Love: Haruhiism

This post is part of trzr23’s “Remembering Love” project, a project where bloggers rewatch their favorite anime during the month of May and post about why they love it each week. There’s supposed to be four posts in total, whether they choose just one anime to write about or several. However, due to my personal blogging preferences, I decided to dedicate just this one post for the project…

The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya (novels 10-11) spoilers roundup

FINAL UPDATE: 9/24/11Due to Yen Press soliciting an official English release of Surprise, I have removed links to the fan translation

Originally scheduled for release in mid-2007, the 10th volume of the Haruhi light novels, The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya (Suzumiya Haruhi no Kyougaku), has been delayed for four years since then. Finally, after getting only a short preview chapter of volume 10 last year, volumes 10 and 11 went on sale in full yesterday in Japan and a few other countries.

In this post, I’ve rounded up all the current spoilers available in English for the new novels, and will continue to update the post when necessary…

“The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya” U.S. premiere and movie review

This past Friday I took a relatively short trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco, CA, to attend the U.S. premiere of “The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.”

The first part of this post is my description of the actual premiere event itself, and the second part is my review of the movie. Since it’s basically two posts in one, I apologize in advance for the length…

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya camera rip, filmstrip video, and artbook scans

I’ve come across more goodies for the Haruhi movie, which probably won’t get a DVD release until fall at the earliest. Among other things, the long awaited camera rip for the movie is now available…

The end of “The Melancholy” of Haruhi Suzumiya

Now that the 2009 rebroadcast/second season is over and the much anticipated “Disappearance” movie has proven to be quite successful, it seems that Haruhi’s popularity continues despite the three year wait for new episodes and the “Endless Eight” fiasco. However, an interesting discussion came up on this AnimeSuki forum post – the fact that “The Disappearance” movie may be the final installment of the title known as “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya”…

“The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya” (Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu) has now been officially released in Japanese theaters, with the first showing today at 8:00am JST. Current news and fan reviews are coming in via AnimeSuki and other sites. Unfortunately, it may be many months before a DVD will come out and allow those of us outside Japan to watch it. So for those of you who have not read the novel and want to find out at least a little of what happens in the story, I’ve complied a “sneak peek” on this post…

Condensed version of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie now available

A PV that’s more or less a “condensed” version of the upcoming “The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya” movie is now streaming on YouTube via Lantis, the company producing the movie’s soundtrack. The five minute video features a slide-show of screen shots from the movie in chronological order, with background music from the soundtrack playing. The animation and everything else about the movie now seems more awesome than ever XD

UPDATE 01/22/10: Lantis removed the original PV and replaced it with a less spoiler-filled one (which also has some images not in the original). The video above is the new PV. The old one can currently be found on an unofficial YouTube channel. I’ve posted it below after the jump…
