Welcome to my anime haven

It’s now been a year and four months since I last posted photos of my room, which is covered in anime posters and goodies. My room actually got featured in ANN’s Shelf Life back in Sept. 2009 when I submitted the photos. A lot has changed since then, so I decided it’s once again time to take out the camera and share the 2011 version of my anime-covered room with everyone…

We’ll start things off with the area around my bed. On the bed is my Inuyasha throw blanket, which has kept me warm many nights :3 You can also see my big Pikachu plush among other stuffed animals (gosh, he must be ten years old now!) On the left wall are random anime pictures, among them a Toradora! and Eden of the East poster that I got from promotions at AX 2010. Hanging by the window are my badges from all the anime conventions I’ve been to (six so far). And of course, my Fushigi Yuugi scroll that’s been hanging in that same place for the past eight years. I used to have a big Haruhi scroll hanging directly above the bed, but I took it down so I have room for the 2011 Haruhi calendar ^_^ Below the calendar is a K-ON! fan art and a small pencil board, above the calendar is my favorite old-school Pokemon poster, and to the left of that is an End of Evangelion fan art I purchased a long time ago.

Next is the wall to the left of the bed. Hanging on the window is the Pokemon reji sheet I bought at the Pokemon Center in Tokyo (now outdated with only 493 pokemon XD) Under the window are more anime pictures, including an old Pokemon jigsaw puzzle and a random page from the Cardcaptor Sakura 2000 calendar. Next to that are a wildlife calendar and poster (yes, there are a few other things I’m interested in besides anime =P) Oh, and don’t forget to spot my two Nana keychains hanging from the blinds.

Moving on to the next corner, you can see the desk where I used to have my computer monitor before I got my HD TV (which I’ll get to later). Besides using the desk to display many of my anime figures and plushies, I also use it for my printer (on the top), my desktop computer (on the bottom), and game controllers and remotes. I still have my monitor out behind my “Chopper shrine” on the desk just in case I need it (have it covered in a pillow case so it doesn’t get dusty). And lastly, my 1,000 piece Haruhi jigsaw puzzle on the bottom there.

A closer photo of the computer desk. Obviously I have the most figures/plushies of Haruhi and Chopper since they’re my favorites (and come April, she’ll be joining my small but growing figure collection).

The biggest change in my room since last year is the edition of a 40″ HD TV which is now my TV and computer monitor (currently with my favorite Okami wallpaper). I’m always a few years behind the times – I just moved up to HD while everyone else is on Blu-ray already. But I’ll catch up eventually :3 Right now I’m just enjoying watching anime, playing games, and surfing the web on such a big screen. Behind the TV is my signed Lucky Star poster and the Haruhi movie poster I got during its U.S. premiere. On the shelves under the TV are my DVD/VHS combo player (yes, I still have a lot of things on VHS), my karaoke machine, my Wii and games, and my Cardcaptor Sakura and Inuyasha DVDs, among others, on the bottom. And in addition to a plush of Teito (the little fox squirrel from Nausicaa), that anteater plush is there because it’s the mascot of my university. And lastly (if you can spot it), directly under the TV is a figure of my favorite pokemon, Vaporeon. My laptop is in that black case in the lower right corner (does anybody know if laptops need to be plugged in even when they’re shut down?)

Here’s the rest of the wall behind the TV as well as the back of the door. More anime posters, mostly Bleach and Okami. Also, my sighed Code Geass poster on the left, another Code Geass poster that came inserted in an art book I bought, an Eureka 7 fan art to the right of that, and a Naruto jigsaw puzzle below.

—–

*Click the image for a larger version*

Here’s the other side of the door – Fullmetal Alchemist, Sailor Moon, and Ouran. Heh, I’ve had that little Pikachu sticker for like, twelve years XD

—–

*Click the image for a larger version*

Here’s the other wall next to the door. To the left is one of my closet doors covered in three big Pokemon posters. To the right is my bookshelf, with some manga, Japanese lit and language books, and anime art books among other things. On top of the shelf are more anime goods, mostly Kannagi and Lucky Star. Each year I hang a different anime calendar on this wall, and this year it’s Angel Beats!. You can see a Macross Frontier pencil board next to it and a couple of Evangelion posters under that.

—–

*Click the image for a larger version*

Here’s both of my closet doors – Pokemon on the right and Shana, Inuyasha, and Yu-Gi-Oh! on the left.

—–

*Click the image for a larger version*

The next corner – on top is a huge Haruhi poster signed by the English voice actors. Below that are more anime posters (the pretty cover of my Angel Beats! calendar among them) and the shelf where I keep most of my anime DVD collections (really need to get a bigger one). The DVDs I have are Slayers, Shana, Evangelion, Mushishi, Trigun, Fushigi Yuugi, Tenchi Muyo!, Azumanga Daioh, Haibane Renmei, Wolf’s Rain, Tactics, Fruits Basket, Haruhi, Noir, and Gunslinger Girl. Under the pink desk on the left is a very old Cardcaptor Sakura poster I have no room for, and my Angel Beats! tote bag with Yuri on it~

—–

*Click the image for a larger version*

I’ve had this pink desk since elementary school and I still haven’t found a reason to get rid of it XD More pictures above the desk, including a Spice and Wolf pencil board I got in Japan. Figures and other goodies on the desk – to the left are my old Pokemon figures, the first figures I ever bought. On the desk are some Japanese study books and my black DSi (with a Pokemon cover on it :3), cell phone, and car keys. My desk is usually not this neat XD

And lastly, an overall shot of my room. Sitting on that blue chair is how I spend the majority of my free time online, playing games, or watching TV/movies/anime. Investing in a wireless keyboard and mouse certainly made my set up more comfortable =)

So that’s my room. To some, my collection is huge, to others, it’s not. But I’m certainly grateful for having my own little anime haven and being able to purchase so many nice things for myself over the years =D I’ve lived in this house for over twenty years but I know one day I’ll have to move. Transferring this anime room to a new location will not be easy! But I don’t think I’ll be going anywhere for a while ^_^a

  1. KyonzumiNagato13 says:

… Wow. I am speechless how much you have! I think I missed this info, but how many years did it take for you to collect these (besides the Suzumiya Haruhi and Angel Beats ones)?

    • Yumeka says:

I started covering every inch of my room in Pokemon stuff back in 1999 and it started to expand to other anime around 2001. And it’s been evolving with my fandom ever since =)

  2. I love that huge Pokemon poster (the one with the 493 pokemons), someday I’ll find one for my room. That computer setting you have right there seems to be extremelly comfortable, anime viewing has to be a godlike experience.

Oh, and you’re not the only one behind the times. I myself have not seen anything in Bluray yet, go figure :(

    • Yumeka says:

Yes, I used to watch anime on a regular computer chair with a regular-sized computer monitor (or on my bed with my laptop). But watching it on a big HD TV while sitting in a reclining chair is the ultimate XD

I haven’t seen any full movie/show on Blu-ray either. I’ve seen little clips and screencaps and it does look impressive. Just not that much of a difference for me to make the change right now.

  3. Myna says:

How the heck do you get enough money do buy all this stuff?

I’m super jealous of that awesome original series Pokemon poster, your original series Pokemon action figures, and all your Pokemon plushies!
I love all your CCS and Haruhi posters, too ^^
I wish I had more anime posters D: All I have is a nice Kingdom Hearts 2 poster. The rest is Broadway stuff xD I don’t even have an anime calendar this year (again). Stupid Borders decided not to have any (but I got a Charlie Brown one instead, so it’s all good!).
But then again, my room is small, so it’s not like I even have enough space for more posters xD
I have three small shelves of manga, a Torchic plush, a Mokona, Haruhi and Squirtle keychain, a TsubasaRC bag, and a Haruhi T-shirt. That’s about it. I’ve only been to two cons (NYCC and Otakon both in ’08)
Have you bought any of the Pokeball stress balls yet? I just got one from my friend ^^ I WANT THEM ALL!

    • Yumeka says:

Honestly, most of the stuff I have is not expensive. Posters are cheap and a lot of them I just printed out from the computer. I don’t have a ton of figures and the ones I have aren’t too expensive. And even my collection of anime DVDs isn’t that huge compared to how many years I’ve been buying them. Other things I have are character goods that are rarely more than $30-$50 each. The most expensive things in my room would be my computer and TV.

You should try ordering anime calendars from Japan online. They’re a lot nicer (and bigger) than the American ones with a better variety of anime to choose from.

Never heard of Poke-ball stress balls XD The only Poke-ball collectibles I have are the ones that were Burger King promotions back in the day and they open up with a gold Pokemon card inside

  4. It’s nice to see you have some wall and door to go with your artwork. Again, it’s lovely to see your collection be varied throughout the 2000s with Pokemon, Haruhi. Lucky Star, as well as others like Inyuyasha and Okami sprinkled around. The only thing I see missing is some Ho-kago Tea Time on your walls. I see what you meant about the Angel Beats calendar and it seems like such a horrible design compared to KyoAni’s calendars. I hope you heave plenty of help when you decide to move; I think you’ll need quite a few poster cartons to fit all of that art.

    • Yumeka says:

LOL, I would probably put posters on my walls if they weren’t made of asbestos.

The only K-ON! things I have are the fan art poster and pencil board above my bed. I also have my K-ON! mousepad but it didn’t get in any of the pictures.

Like I told you, every anime calendar I’ve bought over the years has the tear-off page design. I honestly don’t know why more companies don’t incorporate KyoAni’s design.

  5. f0calizer says:

Aww, you didn’t mention the gigantic Chi plushie in the photo of your computer desk??? She’s so cute, even as a stuffed animal! =D

I’ve seen most of the ANN featured anime-deco rooms, and yours in one of the few that has posters from Cardcaptor Sakura (not to mention the now out-of-print DVDs!). It always makes me feel bittersweet when I see CCS artwork — it was such a good manga and anime for many reasons, and yet there seems to be little trace of it nowadays. Perhaps there wasn’t much official merchandise to begin with?

    • Yumeka says:

Heh, I didn’t want to mention everything in each picture since that would take too long. I figured Chi was obvious enough without me having to mention her XD

I’ve seen a lot of rooms on Shelf Life that have stuff from older anime – I actually think I’ve seen some CCS too. Unfortunately I don’t know about the Japanese side of CCS merchandise since I wasn’t into ordering character goods online back then. But I do have some of the Japanese trading cards and some of the U.S. merchandise.

  6. jda95 says:

Wow, you have the Japanese AND American 2000 Pokemon calendar? That’s dedication!

    • Yumeka says:

Viz actually released English versions of two of the early Pokemon calendars. Surprisingly, the calendars were exact replicas of the Japanese ones – same size, same pictures, and same style of two-months per page. I bought one of the English versions until they stopped making them. I’ve since bought many of the Japanese calendars :3

  7. Kyjin says:

I recognize the Angel Beats calendar! :D I have one in my apartment this year as well. (As well as the new Code Geass calendar. Shinsengumi Lelouch and Suzaku are amazing.)

I continue to be jealous of your signed Geass poster.

    • Yumeka says:

Cool, I’ve been keeping track of the Code Geass calendars but never actually bought one. I have large scans of the 2008 calendar – I should check out the others ones too.

  8. Sebz says:

Oh gosh, my room is nothing compared to this…

  9. Mizorui says:

    Something’s missing…

Oh right! A picture of the room’s owner!

  10. aserré says:

    You room is very small

  11. Liza says:

Oh wow, you have a TON of stuff. My dorm room doesn’t compare at all. I only have a bunch of posters and a couple of figurines.

    • Yumeka says:

When I was living in a student apartment during my two years at university, I decorated my room in a similar way (I shared an apartment with others but had a private bedroom). My student rooms were smaller so I couldn’t have as much stuff. But I had enough to make it interesting, and I made sure to leave enough posters and stuff back home for when I returned on holidays and some weekends :3

  12. I cannot possibly express my jealousy right now. I have posters and whatnot up, but don’t have the money for a collection like yours. One of these days, I swear it…

    • Yumeka says:

Heh, like I said to Myna above, considering how many years I’ve loved anime, what you see in my room really didn’t come out to that much money. I prefer to buy lots of character goods as opposed to DVD collections, which aren’t as expensive. And I often print out my own anime pictures to hang on the walls =)

      • I’ve loved the stuff since I was five, but wasn’t capable of buying all of the wonderful nonsense until I was around 14. Still, working on that. Every time I go to a convention, I work on that. And like you, I don’t do much in the way of buying DVD collections.

  13. chikorita157 says:

I have to admit, your room looks pretty awesome! It takes a lot of effort and money to buy all those merchandises. As for me, my room is pretty messy, so I can’t really put much stuff on my walls. On the other hand, my sister has some anime merchandise, but has a messy room too… Someday I’ll clean it out.

    • Yumeka says:

      Thanks, glad you like it~

Being neat and organized is something I’m good at. I always try to find a specific place for everything and I put it back when I’m done using it. A couple of my roommates in college were the opposite and left lots of their stuff, from clothes to keys, in random places and it drove me crazy! And then they’d wonder why they lost things =P The only parts of my room that ever get into any sort of disarray are my desk and closets.

  14. kluxorious says:

I’m a neat freak and despite the fact that I purchased lots of posters, I just put them in a custom album I made because I don’t want my room to look like… well… yours. The only anime related thing on displays are the boxes of figurines I bought that got piled up on a shelves specially made for them and figures that I bought that I displayed on a display case.

    • Yumeka says:

Sounds like you want your room to be more “feng shui” while still having a few anime things. My mom is the opposite of me in that she can’t stand having a ton of things on display or on the walls. She says she’s always uncomfortable in my room because it’s too “busy” in there =P

  15. Reiko says:

Amazing! *_* I so wish I had the anime merchandise you have…XD Everything is so cute and awesome in your room…

That Yuri figure is so adorable! *Must buy one for oneself* I bet you are very excited to get it! :D

  16. Kal says:

Nice! It’s been a while since I’ve seen a VHS player. I’ve always been traveling, so never had a chance to actually make a collection. All I have is a Haruhi figurine, and a last exile poster… And that’s it. Well, it’s never too late to start I guess :P

Also, I think you have some space in your roof for more posters, I’m sure your mom would just “love” that :)

  17. Justin says:

That’s a lot of stuff. It also looks like your room’s pretty big too! But that’s a great looking room.

  18. Aaron B. says:

Super-nifty collection. What I like about your collection is that it seems you have a little bit of everything — and perhaps in some cases, certain merchandise from certain series. A lot of anime fans stick to key series or genres, or stick to certain types of collectibles — I stick to DVDs and cels, largely — so it’s pretty cool to see all these little nicknacks and where they fit into your collection.

By the way, definite props for the DVD/VHS combo player.

  19. Find_Vega says:

Sadly I shared a room for over 19 years with my younger brother so most of the anime stuff I had was limited to dvd’s, soundtracks, manga, and under the bed a shoebox of anime posters I collected (not many).

One day I do hope I increase this anime fandom into something bigger in a place of my own. Though I’m still embarrassed to even show my friends this so this might take some time to get used to.
