As always, here are my first impressions of the winter 2012 anime I’m watching upon seeing two episodes of each…

Are you ever too old for kids anime?

Kids anime like Sailor Moon, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh! was the first kind of anime I watched and my gateway into becoming the major fan that I am today. Many of us share a similar story in that watching dubbed kids anime on TV when we were younger was what began our anime fandom. But as we’ve grown older and discovered more “adult” anime, the appeal of the kids anime we used to love has faded for most of us. For me however, I’m still very much a fan of kids anime…

First impressions of the fall ’11 anime I’m watching

Almost all of the seasonal anime I had been watching since spring ’11 ended this season, so I had room to pick up quite a few fall ’11 titles. There are a lot of sequels I’m interested in this season, as well as some brand new series. Now that the first couple of weeks of the fall 2011 anime have passed, how have the shows I’m watching fared?…

My picks for the fall ’11 season

The list of anime scheduled to air in a few weeks for the fall 2011 season has been out for a while, but I’m just now sitting down and deciding which ones I’ll be watching. Nine anime I’m currently watching will end by fall, so I reckon I’ll pick up that number of shows to watch, give or take a couple…

Digimon: from Adventure to Xros Wars

Back in the late 90s/early 2000s when Pokemon was at the height of its popularity, many similar “monster collection” anime and game series were brought over from Japan in the hopes of cashing in on this current fad. While the majority of these franchises simply came and went, arguably the most successful one was Digimon…

Another look at the trend of frequently changing anime OPs and EDs

Earlier this year, I wrote a post about how many recent anime series have had openings and/or endings that change frequently in song, animation, or both, sometimes as often as every single episode. Though it’s happened in a few cases for older anime, it seems like the trend has really taken off this year…

Who are your “redeemed” anime characters?

Good character development is one element we love to see in anime. If done well, it can take a seemingly unlikable or uninteresting character and pleasantly surprise us by turning them into something special. Today I decided to think back on some of my favorite “redeemed” characters – characters I wasn’t thrilled with at first only to be utterly amazed by them once their character development kicked in…

First impressions of the summer 2010 anime I’m watching

Not many summer shows looked particularly appealing to me this year. So far I’m watching four and may pick up another one or two if the desire arises. Here are my thoughts after watching the first two episodes of each…

My favorite pixiv illustrations

フライヤー by ながれぼし

Anime fan art is not hard to come by. However, exceptional fan art could be if you don’t know where to look. I first heard about the Japanese fan art site, pixiv, in late ’08. It is indeed the number one site to find incredible anime fan art from many different series…
