Real pokemon

This week has been unexpectedly busy for me, so today I’m just going to share something easy and fun…

When the golden years come, will anime follow?

Will we even remember them 50 years from now?

Anime has been the love of my life for over a decade now, but as I’ve gotten older, I’m continually pondering a difficult question – has my love since become so much a part of who I am that it’s permanent, or will things that happen later in my life eventually shift my interest elsewhere?

My anime collection

In past posts, I’ve taken photos of my anime-covered room and highlighted the gems of my anime collection. But I haven’t yet talked about my actual collection of anime DVDs. Despite being into anime for eleven years now, I haven’t accumulated all that many series on DVD, mostly due to lack of funds for many years and only wanting to buy titles I especially like. Since a list of my anime video library isn’t too long for a post, and since a lot of my DVDs have a story behind them, I felt like giving them some attention…

The final message of Madoka Magica

And so ends arguably the most popular anime to come out in recent years. Even though I rarely write more than one post in less than a day, after watching the last two Madoka Magica episodes, I just couldn’t keep my fangasms about the ending to myself…

Nostalgia: remembering my “former” anime favorites

It’s to be expected that our favorite anime titles and characters change as we discover new series over the years. For those of us who have been into anime for at least a few years, we ourselves often change as people and thus our tastes in anime change too. So today I’m going to be looking back at my “former” favorite anime and characters – ones that I used to love during my early years of fandom (no later than 2004) and seeing how they compare to my current tastes…

First impressions of the spring ’11 anime I’m watching

After eight anime I was watching finished airing this spring, I’ve so far picked up six spring ’11 shows to replace them on my “watching” list. As I mentioned before, for some reason I was having a lot of trouble deciding which shows to watch this season. But as of now I feel I’ve pretty much come to a decision and will stick with these six, so it’s time for another obligatory first impressions review…

Rewatching anime

Rewatching anime is something that some fans do all the time and others hardly ever do. Some rewatch only the anime they especially love, while others may go so far as to rewatch an anime they didn’t like the first time in order to give it another chance. Like most things in the fandom, rewatching anime is an activity that varies among fans. In my case, rewatching began as something I did all the time and ended up being something I rarely do. However, I still find it an important asset of being a fan…

Finally moving up to Blu-ray

This past Saturday I purchased my first Blu-ray player. I know Blu-ray has been around for a while now but I was a bit skeptical about getting into it. Firstly, I didn’t have enough money to even get my first HD TV until this past summer, but even then I suppose I was waiting for the price of Blu-rays to go down and for anime to start being released more steadily on BD here in the U.S. But now I feel the time is finally right for me to move up as far as my anime/movie viewing experience…

What are the most “least known” anime that you’ve ever watched?

Ever since the flourishing of anime online in the past five or so years, which allows fans around the world to follow Japan’s otakudom in real time and know every single anime that comes out each season, it’s hard to find anime nowadays that no one is watching or discussing. I’m one who usually follows all the popular and most discussed series. I know some fans watch obscure, unpopular titles all the time, but for me, I haven’t seen many old or niche anime so the number of little known titles I have under my belt is virtually nil. However, there are a handful of anime that I’ve watched during my 11+ years as a fan that I’ve hardly seen anyone mention. So today, I’ll be giving brief shout-outs to five of the most “least known” anime that I’ve watched…

Bakuman review

Bakuman is one of the few weekly shonen series that’s devoid of intense, bloody battles and characters with fantastical super powers. Rather, Bakuman tackles the shonen theme of plucky young boys trying to achieve their goals in a more realistic setting. Instead of wanting to become hokage or “King of the Pirates,” our heroes simply want to become manga-ka…
