Do your favorite anime have to be ongoing?

While thinking back on all the anime series I was ever obsessed with, or in other words, all the anime I had ever considered my favorite at some point in time, they were all ongoing series. I know it’s natural for fans to obsess over new and popular series rather than old ones that have ended, but for the me the trend has been very consistent…

Preliminary plans for Anime Expo ’11, and why we go to cons

Last night I preregistered for Anime Expo 2011 and booked a hotel for my stay there. Even though the con is still months away and hardly anything about its events is known yet, I can’t contain my excitement and am already making tentative plans in my head. It also got me thinking that, despite the fact that we all love anime, fans have a variety of reasons for why they go to conventions…

Can’t decide what to watch for spring ’11

I haven’t had as much trouble deciding what seasonal anime to watch as I’m having with this upcoming spring 2011 season. There’s only a few that I definitely want to watch and a bunch of others that sound good, but too many for me to watch all of them. So somehow I’m going to have to narrow down my choices…

My 10 favorite seiyuu

I recently noticed that I haven’t talked much about seiyuu on my blog even though they’re an important part of the anime industry. When it comes to people like singers and voice actors, I guess I’m the type of person who could love their work but not look into any further info about them other than that. I doubt I could even recognize any of my favorite seiyuu by looks, which makes me feel a bit ashamed (I think I’m just not good at distinguishing Asian faces 0_o) So today I’m going to focus this post on seiyuu and count down my top 10 favorites…

Pokemon Black & White: questioning the morality of the franchise

Everyone interested in the new Pokemon games, Black and White, has more or less dabbled in some part of the games by now. Even in the anime blogsphere, lots of reviews and daily gaming logs have been popping up. But since I’ve already written a review of the game when I got the Japanese version, and I don’t have that much to add after playing the English version, I decided to focus this post on the specific conflict of the games’ storyline. It’s a conflict that has intrigued players because it does something unexpected – it questions the very morality of the Pokemon world…

The difference between obligation and passion in anime fandom

Even though being a part of anime fandom naturally means you love anime, I sometimes feel that certain things I do within the fandom aren’t always for the sake of passion, but rather, a sense of obligation for being a part of it all…

How does your taste in anime compare to the average fan?

I got this interesting idea via digitalboy’s recent post about comparing my tastes in anime to the tastes of the average (English-speaking) fan. MyAnimeList.net (MAL) is a great site to see the overall tastes of such fans, since it has thousands of users from different states/countries with varying tastes in anime. So I decided to see how my favorites rank among MAL’s general populace…

My condolences to Japan and reflections on natural disasters

I’ve never seen Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 but I know it’s appropriate right now

I rarely do news posts since I can’t get them out promptly and there are many others far more skilled at gathering up-to-date information and links than I am. But since the recent disaster in Japan hit so close to home (in my heart I mean), I just couldn’t ignore it…

Making a list of favorite anime openings

I’ve made a lot of anime favorites lists over the years, but I was recently reminded that I have yet to make a list of favorite openings, a list that many bloggers have already done. Although there’s a reason for why I’ve been avoiding such a list, I finally managed to come up with a top 10…
