Anime demotivators

I’ve been working more hours than usual this week, so regrettably I don’t have the time or energy for an extensive post today – instead, here’s a quick but fun post that I hope will provide your day with a chuckle or two. A collection of my favorite anime demotivators…

In my last “filler” post about funny fansubs, TRazor suggested I do demotivators next, which I coincidentally was planning to do XD For those of you who don’t know what they are, demotivators are the opposite of those motivational posters you often see hanging in offices and similar places. While these “motivators” have an inspirational image captioned with a motivating keyword in large letters with a reinforcing sentences below it, demotivators completely parody that idea. How so? My favorite anime demotivators, that I’ve gotten from various places around the web, are prime examples:

*I apologize for the Code Geass spoilers*

The below five demotivators are really clever – I was able to get all but the third one right away XD

*I’m not usually one for crude humor…but this one XD*

The below five demotivators are courtesy of (the now inactive?) BakaReviews‘ “demotivator of the week.”

These are the best anime demotivators I’ve been able to find but I know there are plenty more good ones out there. Feel free to link to any you’d like to share in the comments =)

And for some brief site news, four seasonal shows I’m watching will be ending soon (Ano Hana, [C], Gosick, and Kami nomi II) so posts about some or all of them will be coming up. Also, I’ll be off to Anime Expo in a week, and will be turning nine years old! =D

Anyway, I can’t say for sure when my next post will be due to a currently uncertain work schedule. But it should be early next week sometime. See you all then. Hope your summer is off to a good start~

Those are awesome! Thanks for the good laugh at work. But I did not get any of the “colored bars” demotivators… I guess I’m not otaku enough :(

    Have fun in the expo!

  2. Myna says:

    The Misty one always makes me shed a tear in my heart ;___;

As for the OTAKU ones, I only got the first one and the fourth one. :(

  3. Bonehimer says:

That first one reminded me of a shirt I saw way back in early/mid 00s, it read “Anime is cheaper than crack.” And rightfully so, all those characters in that pic hearken back to a time in which every other shows got license and was sold rather expansively. Two episodes of FLCL for 30 bucks anyone?

There needs to be an updated pic along the lines of “Anime: brb checking Tokyo Toshokan.”

    • Yumeka says:

Yes, I remember seeing the “Anime: Crack is Cheaper” phrase on bags (which I believe they still sell). Prices really were ridiculous back then, huh? Now $30 can get you an entire seasons whereas before it could only get you a few episodes.

And I like your new Tokyo Toshokan line ^^ Definitely fitting for me since I visit that site all the time.

  4. Toonleap says:

I am not a good OTAKU because I cant understand some of the pictures… :(
Only got the first one…please enlighten Me… :)

I liked these demotivational posters, especially the fansub-fail ones. Brightened up my day. :)

There’s a niconico video full of the “are you otaku enough” pictures, and also shows what character is being represented.
I like the Touhou ones the best :3

As for the 5 that you put up, I also got all but the third right away (I thought the 3rd was the afro guy who camo-ed in Hayate ><)

Ah, and for the people who are wondering, the characters the otaku posters are referring to are (from top to bottom): Neon Genesis Evangelion, Doraemon, Lupin the 3rd, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Detective Conan.

    • Yumeka says:

Thanks so much for the link~ That’s a great video ^^ Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get a lot of them because I don’t know a lot of the characters they used.

Apparently I was wrong about the second one I posted as I thought it was from Transformers and not Doraemon. Had no idea about the third one so thanks for that XD

    • Myna says:

      Thanks for the answers!

    • Kaynn says:

I could relate Evangelion, Suzumiya and Conan, but I have no ideas for the second and the third one. I guess I pass with a Big 60% , yeah!! xD

  6. “Never come inside me without permission” remains my favorite. ;) I’d forgotten that it was Allelujah referring to Hallelujah…

  7. H says:

I have no clue on the otaku ones they just look like random colors and shapes to me. Therefore i am not an otaku.

  8. Kay says:

xD I lol’d at the Otaku ones.. I definitely know the 1st and 4th ones.. the 5th one looks familiar, but i can’t figure it out.. the 3rd one I have no clue lol. yay, otaku =D

  9. Inushinde says:

I got two of the colored bar ones, as well as an inkling of what a third was. Two and a half isn’t bad out of five.
The Ash’s hat one was just depressing. I mean you don’t fight a Primeape over that only to toss it aside. That just ain’t right.

  10. Salion says:

And here I’d thought the first two otaku posters were for Decepticons and Autobots … I suppose that American cartoons wouldn’t be in an otaku reference though.

  11. xueqir says:

i got two of the otaku colored stripes….that’s two more than i expected :D

  12. I DIED at the “Context” demotivational… dear God, I’m a horrible person xD

By the way, from the Otaku pictures I recognize the Eva-01 and Haruhi. Hmm… are those others Goku and Conan? I’m not familiar at all with the second one… oh well, I’m not THAT otaku I guess!

Very awesome post… and very demotivational hehe. Finally… nah, drugs are a lot more expensive: you can fulfill all your otaku needs using the Internet! :D
