Your anime community

A carnival post from The Beautiful World brings up the interesting concept of anime communities. To me, such a community would be a place among a group of anime fans I enjoy being with, whether in person or online. There are all kinds of anime communities, the majority of which are online nowadays, as well as some fans who don’t have any desire for a community at all. Today I’d like to take a look at the different kinds of anime communities…

The importance of subtitle quality

A recent post by @fkeroge talked about how subtitle quality can vary between official subtitles and fansubs, with the official ones not always being the most accurate. But ultimately, the only way one can get the original experience of watching an anime how it was intended, is to learn Japanese and watch it raw. Obviously this isn’t an option for a lot of people, so I’d like to explore the topic of subtitle quality further…

Anime franchises

When we say we’re into a certain anime, in a lot of cases it doesn’t mean that we’re only into the anime; pretty much all anime series are in some form or other part of a media franchise. They’re an anime but also a manga, light novel, video game, trading card game, collection of toys, or any number of mediums. Remembering Love: Haruhiism

This post is part of trzr23’s “Remembering Love” project, a project where bloggers rewatch their favorite anime during the month of May and post about why they love it each week. There’s supposed to be four posts in total, whether they choose just one anime to write about or several. However, due to my personal blogging preferences, I decided to dedicate just this one post for the project…

Knowing an anime’s story beforehand

A recent post by Marth brings up the idea of how our perception of an anime adaptation can be greatly influenced by our prior knowledge of the anime’s original source material. This can apply to all forms of media really, such as book-to-movie adaptations or movie retellings of TV series. In anime fandom, there’s strong opinions among those who intensely care about faithfulness to the source material and those who don’t know or care…

Fundamentals of Japanese – Part 3: Particles

Now that I’ve covered the Japanese syllabary and writing systems, in this section I’ll be going over the basics of Japanese sentences. To me, the most fundamental parts of Japanese grammar are particles and the “to be” verb, です(desu), which is what I’ll be discussing here in Part 3…
