Famous manga artist Koge-Donbo is best known for her “cute” character designs, especially in her popular series Di Gi Charat, Kamichama Karin, Pita Ten, and others. After these, I don’t think she drew much more Harry Potter fan art (supposedly she has/had a HP fan site though I haven’t been able to find it). But there is still a shocking variety of Harry Potter doujinshi among Japanese fans, as listings like this can testify.
I know many anime fans who also like Harry Potter, both casual HP fans like myself and hardcore ones. And I can easily see why. Even though HP was written by an English woman, the series shares many attributes that fans admire in anime; an amazingly creative fantasy setting that is so detailed and complex, it seems almost believable, a large cast of dynamic, distinct characters and the fascinating relationships that form between them, and an endless array of themes, ranging from love, friendship, courage, and trust, to death, loss, fear, and betrayal. Since HP is a series of books, the one thing it’s lacking when compared to anime is a visual style and concrete characters designs. And that’s where all the numerous HP fan art and doujinshi come in XD
And just for fun, here’s a photo of the Japanese movie poster for the 6th Harry Potter movie, which was in theaters when I was in Japan earlier this summer. Though the original title is “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” the Japanese title is “Harry Potter and the Mysterious Prince” (“Hari Pottaa to Nazo no Purinsu”).
Anyway, if they ever make a Harry Potter animated TV series, I think Japan should be the country to make it, or at least produce the animation and character designs XD After all, I’m sure many of us agree that Japan has other countries bested when it comes to visual/animation culture. Of course, the licensing and other expenses for something like that would be enormous, which is probably why it hasn’t been done yet. But maybe one day ;)

Awwww. The Harry Potter pics make them look so cute! I think a Harry Potter anime would be interesting plus I would want to know if they would “japanese” it like with the Stitch anime.
aww so cute!!! I’m a fan of Koge-Donbo’s work for a while now; her style is just so cute! I think if they make a Harry Potter anime they should use her artwork. haha…but then all the characters would be all cute and adorable, including lots of the bad guys, and that might make things silly.

OMG!!! I WOULD GIVE ALOT FOR A HARRY POTTER ANIME, AND IT WOULD BE JUST AWESOME IF KOGE DONBO DID THE MANGA PART! <3 Actually, I think she did, because the artwork here looks familiar- I remember reading a Harry Potter doujin online a year ago that looked just like it… Hmm… :/
