Plans for AX!

The Anime Expo 2007 web site finally posted lists and descriptions of all the events that are going on during each of the four days. So today I started planning my schedule, taking note of all the events that I want to attend. I’m going for the full four days at AX this year, along with my friend pkjd from moetron.

This is actually only the second time I’ve been to AX. I went in 2005 but just for one day. I would’ve gone last year but I was away studying abroad in Japan. Besides the one day in 2005, the only anime cons I’ve been to are small ones (AnimeLA and Micomicon). So going to a big con like AX for an entire four days is certainly a treat! =D Anyway, here’s my very tentative schedule for my time at AX ’07:

Friday 29th
12:00 – 12:50: VIZ panel

1:30 – 2:20: Anna Tsuchiya panel
I only know Tsuchiya’s songs from NANA, but I love all of them ^.^ So I’m really glad that she’ll be at AX this year! I don’t know if I like her enough to go through the hassle/expense of getting a good seat at her concert though…but we’ll see

2:00 – 4:00: Inuyasha appreciation party
A party for Inuyasha fans I assume…of course I’ve gotta check this out! XD

4:30 – 5:20: SOS Brigade panel
I’ll be going to the SOS Brigade concert on Saturday, but I think this must be where they’ll be doing autographs. I already know it’s gonna be a mob scene there =P

7:30 – 8:20: J-pop culture workshop

Saturday 30th
10:00 – 10:50: ANN panel

12:30 – 1:20: JET panel
JET is actually one of the programs I was thinking of looking into once I get my BA in Japanese Language & Literature. I’m really happy they’re gonna be there!

1:30 – 2:20: Of J-gods and J-rockers workshop

3:00 – 5:30: SOS Invasion Tour concert
I already know this concert is gonna be one of the biggest events in AX history! Good thing I already bought my premier tickets. It cost $30 but I believe it’s well worth it!

Sunday 1st
9:00 – 10:20: Voice acting workshop
I’m not interested in breaking into the voice acting field, but I like meeting the voice actors themselves and finding out how the industry works =)

10:00 – 10:50: TOEI One Piece panel

11:00 – 11:50: DOT Anime panel

1:30 – 3:20: Mushishi panel
I watched all the fansubs of Mushishi and loved the series, so I’m curious to see how they’re going to handle the US release ^^

2:00 – 2:50: Art of Reviewing Anime workshop

5:30 – 7:20: Anime Trivia game
This sounds interesting ^^ I’m not sure what kind of crowd will be there…but if I do go through with this game, I think I’ll either do really well or really bad =P

9:00 – 10:50: Last Comic Standing
This is usually around my bed time, LOL, but if I’m not too tired maybe I’ll check this out. Should be funny XD

Monday 2nd
9:30 – 12:00: Halko Mamoi concert
I actually don’t know any of Halko Mamoi’s songs but pkjd is a big fan of hers and he wanted company for the concert, so I figured, what the heck? =) I’m curious to see what kind of talent she has

1:00 – 2:50: Whose Line is it Anime?
I went to a “Whose Line is it Anime?” at AnimeLA last year and it was pretty funny. Hopefully this one will be even better ^^

3:00 – 6:00: SPJA charity auction

And of course everyday, the Exhibit Hall will be open with booths that are selling all kinds of anime merchandise. I’ve gotta remember to take out lots of cash before the trip! I also recently discovered that I like to karaoke, and they also have that going on everyday. I don’t mind singing in front of people I know, but in front of strangers? ^^,,, I’ll have to see how gutsy I’m feeling. Anyway, I’m really impressed with the variety of events that are going to be held at AX. But my main disappointment, as far as gaming tournaments go, there’s nothing for Pokemon Diamond & Pearl. I can’t understand why; since they’ve come out both in Japan and the US, they’ve been extremely popular among anime and video game fans, way more than the Naruto, Full Metal Alchemist, and Bleach games. Yet those games have tournaments, but nothing for Pokemon. There’s even a big Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament, so why not Pokemon, which is more popular and has been around a lot longer. Well, there’s still time, so maybe they just haven’t announced it yet. And if there really is nothing, I’ll just have to find other Pokemon fans to play with myself =P

Wow! Sounds good. Too bad I’ll never see it. :P Living all the way across the country sucks, man….Oh well. :D

  2. My friend and I will be going to AX this year for the 4 days (last year we went there as well but only for 2 days). We will be cosplaying too this year, so if you see two girls dressed up as Sakura and Tomoyo in outfits from the Piffle World arc of Tsubasa Chronicle, most likely that will be us!
