Pokemon Battle Revolution tournament at Game Stop!

null
Yesterday I attended the Pokemon Battle Revolution tournament that was being held by Game Stop stores across the USA. It seemed a bit disorganized at first…apparently all Game Stops were supposed to be having it, but two of the three closest to me did not have it (for ridiculous reasons, like not being able to get the key to their Wiis). I attended the one in Canoga Park, California, located in the Topanga mall. Although I didn’t win, it was still fun. It’s been years since I went to a Pokemon tournament so it’s nice to see that there are still a lot of dedicated Poke-fans like me ^^

First place prize was a copy of Pokemon Battle Revolution (which was kind of stupid since pretty much everyone there was a dedicated Pokemon fan who already had the game anyway) and a PBR t-shirt. Second place was just the t-shirt and everyone else got Pokemon bookmarks for coming. Every Game Stop had their own rules; for this one, it was 4vs4 double battles and the only rule was that we could only have one legendary pokemon per team (and no hacked pokemon of course).

Not knowing what kind of crowd would be there, I made sure to arrive at Game Stop at least an hour or so before the tournament started (registration began at 1pm and the actual tournament began at 2pm). About 30 people total were in the tournament, and since I was the second to register, my battle was the first one! I won, but I had to wait a few hours before everyone else had their first battles and we moved on to the next round. It wasn’t that boring though, since it was interesting to watch everyone else battle and plan our strategies. When the next round finally began, I won because towards the middle of the battle, we saw that my opponent chose two legendary pokemon instead of one, thus breaking the rules. Since he said he did it by accident, the judge gave me the win and let him battle again by taking the place of someone who had dropped out.

As time went on, many people left, so by the time my third match came up there was just a small crowd remaining (making it quieter and easier to concentrate =P) It was a pretty close battle; we both got down to one pokemon each, but my opponent ended up winning. I really wanted to get at least get second place and win the t-shirt, but it’s okay. I did get these nifty “bookmarks”…lucky me XD

Anyway, I had fun and I enjoyed battling against other people with an actual audience watching =D I was also lucky enough to meet two friendly representatives from Pokemon Nation, an online Pokemon community specializing in battling and trading across the Wi-fi. Although it was long and tiring (my third match didn’t end until 6:30pm XD) I’m glad the tournament wasn’t a disappointment. My only complaint is better prizes and more prior notice of the rules before the actual day of the tournament. But all in all, it was fun =) If anybody knows of any other tournaments involving the Pokemon video games, let me know!

I’ve always wanted to go to something like that but alas, I live in a very small town and the closest Game Stop I know of is an hour away. Oh well, glad you enjoyed it though =)

BTW I think awhile back you said something about trading friend codes I don’t know if I missed a post about it but is that still going to happen? Just curious.

I haven’t yet publicly announced my friend code but I’ve been planning to…just haven’t gotten around to it. If you search for my name on the Serebii.net or Bulbagarden forums, you can find it in my signature. Not sure if I’ll have time to battle or trade with anyone any time soon, but if you really want to, just let me know =)

    Hey Yameka!
    Welcome to PokemonNation!
I was glad to see you there! :D
Sure, I would love to check out your site!
You say you been working on it for “5′ years? :o That’s totaly awesome!
    Major Kudos to you! ;)

We Vigilantes have been working on this site for less than a year sofar.
And we have done well with attracting attention when my best friend “BlueKiKatana,” “defeated the most competitive Pokemon forum in the world, Smogon!”

And not only did he beat them, he also beat them in their own tournament! After that, new members just came rushing over here.

And if you would like to battle, Please provide us with your FriendCode, that way, you could battle anyone you like at PokemonNation.
But I’m not sure when you’ll be able to battle me, due to the fact that I work on the weekends now. XP

    Here is our FriendCode thread:
    http://z6.invisionfree.com/Pokemon_Nation/index.php?showtopic=960

Now all you Have to do is add your friendcode, send a Privite mssage to the person you’d like to battle, and give them your friend code as well.
Then you can challange or trade any one you like!

Sugestion: you could add your friend code to your signature, that way anyone could see it any time you make a post.

    Sound cool!?

Well it was nice meeting you hopefully we’ll meet again!

……..wow. Um, righto! XD Rishi didn’t go to any tornys…..basicly because I don’t have a Wii and I was just too freakin’ lazy to do anything….It was last Saturday, right? My friend went…..and lost. XD

I’d like to do somthing like that someday. :)

OMG! Hi again! How’ve you been since last weekend? It was really great to meet you at that PBR tourney, and I thoroughly enjoyed looking at your site and reading your blog–especially the part about the “friendly” Pokemon Nation representatives. (That was me and Lazer!) Well, I’m off to work on my own web site which has been neglected for quite some time. I’ll leave a link when it gets updated. ^-^

Hey you entered the one in canoga park. I entered the one in inglewood. I never knew there where still so many pokemon fans. The rules was one on one lv.50 all as many legendaries as you want. I was realy nervous because i’m only 12 and I saw like 15,20,25 year olds there. I went with one of my friends so I was a little less nervouse. I was the second to battle. I was so nervouse scince I had to battle an 18 year old called brendan. He was rumered the toughest of all the trainers in blue version. I sent out my mewtwo and he sent his lucario. I used fire blast and it took out about 2/3 of his HP. Lucario used dark pulse and it took out half of mine. Then I used an other fire blast but he was holding his focus band and he took me out. After that I sent out Empoleon. Of course he thought I was stupid enough to use him even though he’s weak against fighting. So lucario used drain punch but empoleon was holding his chople berry so drain punch did almost no damage at all. Then I finished it of with a simple hydro pump attack. Then he sent out his torrtera. So I easily beet it with blizzard. Then he stared right back and said, “you are a tough trainer but you will never defeat me.” Then he sent out his strongest pokémon ho-oh. He used earthquake and beat my empoleon in one blow. So I sent out one of my toughest pokémon Lugia. Everyone looked at us and how similar our pokémon where so ho-oh used sacred fire and took out half of my HP. Then my lugia used hydro pump and it was critical. It took him out… I had one my first tournament battle. Brendan then told me,”you where amazing out there I am a little embarrassed for losing against you but you deserve this win. My friend Alex was up next. He sent out his mew while his opponent (a 6 year old named michael) used an Infernape. Infernape then used a critical flare blitz. It made mew faint but he lost a third of his hp. Then Alex sent out Lugia. Then infernape used thunder punch.
To Be Continued… Next part is tomarrow.
