This was a pretty good chapter, and actually, this whole arc ended up being pretty good. What started off as a seemingly typical “monster-of-the-week” story ended up being excellent character development for Miroku and Sango. Their relationship has come a long way since the beginning of the series, and I don’t think it needs much more development after this. Inuyasha and Kagome’s relationship on the other hand, has been pretty stagnant for a long time, so I hope Takahashi-san has good plans for them later on, LOL.
The only thing I didn’t like about this chapter was how it ended. That guy with the freaky eyes randomly appearing in front of Sesshoumaru asking if he wants to strengthen Tenseiga was just such an obvious set-up for what the next chapter will be about. And personally, I really hope the next 10+ chapters aren’t dedicated to Sesshoumaru getting a new power for Tenseiga. I’m still not over those 5+ volumes of Inuyasha strengthening Tessaiga; I’m sure most fans will agree that the “sword/weapon power-up” arcs are boring and repetitive, and besides, Sesshoumaru is so strong already, I think it would be more interesting if he fought without having perfectly mastered his sword.
I really think Takahashi-san already has an idea of when she wants to end the manga(which I believe will be at least another 50 chapters) so right now she just seems to be meandering around. I wouldn’t say “wasting time,” but rather than addressing any of the series’ already existing major subplots that I mentioned in my chapter 486 review, she’s making up all these other arcs that don’t have very much significance and aren’t moving the story forward. Well anyway, as I’ve said before, let’s just hope she has things planned out and will give us something good in the end =) Hopefully this next arc with Sesshoumaru strengthening Tenseiga won’t be too boring and won’t drag on too long =P
