Volume 49, chapter 482 “Nerawareta Hiraikotsu”(Targeted Hiraikotsu)

This was the series’ 10th anniversary chapter so Takahashi-san added some nice color scans to the first couple of pages. In addition, she also drew herself manga-style(LOL) and answered a question from a reader. The question and her answer were very interesting; the question was something like “why did a tragic and important character like Kikyou have to die while a not-so-tragic and important character like Kouga get to live?” Her answer, that we shouldn’t always expect that kind of justice in the world, is something that I feel could apply to many different anime/manga series’. A lot of fans get outraged when a beloved character dies or suffers unnecessarily. But what makes anime and manga so special is that they reflect real life, and we all know that real life isn’t always a satisfying world where good things happen to the people we like. In fact, much of the time it’s always the opposite of what we want, so anime and manga simply mirror that aspect of life.

But anyway, as for the chapter itself, I thought it would be a bit more interesting since it’s the 10th anniversary chapter and all, but as far as I can see, this arc seems like a typical monster-of-the-week story. LOL, it always amazes me how Takahashi-san can continue to come up with so many different freaky-looking youkai, like the bone monster in this chapter. There really isn’t too much else to say about this chapter…even though it’s nothing impressive yet, there’s a pretty good chance it’s leading to something exciting, with Inuyasha being stuck in his human form, Sango’s weapon being broken, and Miroku being poisoned(for like, the 587th time =P) But speaking of Miroku, I don’t know why, but since chapter 448 when he almost killed himself trying to suck Naraku into his Wind Tunnel, I feel like his days are numbered too, even though I know there’s no way he could die, since he’s one of the main, main characters. Maybe it’s only me, but it just seems that way for some reason. The last chapter brought back the subplot of the life-threatening wounds he got from Naraku’s miasma and how he still won’t tell Sango about it. I really don’t think Takahashi-san would kill him off too, but I’ve just been worried about him lately ~_^
