Misty used to run the Cerulean City Gym with her three sisters. But they criticized her and made fun of her a lot, so she went off on her own in order to prove to them that she could be a good Water pokemon trainer. When she was fishing by a lake near Pallet Town, Ash stole her bike to escape from a flock of angry Spearows, and it ended up being destroyed by Pikachu's Thundershock. Ever since then, Misty decided to follow Ash until he got her a new bike(but now that eventually changed to following him in order to appease the slight crush she developed on him.)
Misty's a big fan of Water pokemon, but she has huge phobia of Bug pokemon. She's pretty nice most of the time, but she does have a short fuse and can be quite scary when angry.
