A farewell to Harry Potter (and will there ever be an anime?)

Credit to linked pixiv user

I wouldn’t call myself a Harry Potter fan, but I do enjoy the movies and have great respect for the books and overall series. With the release of the final movie, which I saw this past weekend in IMAX 3D, it seems like the franchise has now officially come to an end. With that, I feel like a bit of reflecting is in order, as well as wondering if a HP anime is ever possible…

What are your top online presences?

There’s no denying that anime fandom could not have developed as much as it has, nor would it be what it’s been the past decade, without computers and the Internet. Because of this, it’s no surprise that the average anime fan is an active member on at least a few web sites. What would these online presences be, and what do they all add up to as far as our identity?…

The wonders of anime apparel and always having anime on your person

Being the major anime fan that I am, it’s hard for me to imagine not owning any piece of anime apparel. I realize that it’s not always appropriate to advertise anime on your person, but for the most part, I feel more like myself when carrying something anime on me, whether it’s the shirt on my back, a bag holding my belongings, or a keychain for my car keys. So what exactly are the appeals of advertising your anime fandom when out in real life…

The hit or miss of anime fan fiction

Ever since the Internet began to find its way into the life of the average person, sharing fan fiction online became a standard fandom outlet for all forms of media. I first discovered the world of fan fiction in the early 2000s thanks to my then brand new anime obsession and beginning exposure to computers. But although I dabbled in fan fiction for a few years, unlike fan art and fan made videos, it never stuck with me…

Rewatching anime

Rewatching anime is something that some fans do all the time and others hardly ever do. Some rewatch only the anime they especially love, while others may go so far as to rewatch an anime they didn’t like the first time in order to give it another chance. Like most things in the fandom, rewatching anime is an activity that varies among fans. In my case, rewatching began as something I did all the time and ended up being something I rarely do. However, I still find it an important asset of being a fan…

Finally moving up to Blu-ray

This past Saturday I purchased my first Blu-ray player. I know Blu-ray has been around for a while now but I was a bit skeptical about getting into it. Firstly, I didn’t have enough money to even get my first HD TV until this past summer, but even then I suppose I was waiting for the price of Blu-rays to go down and for anime to start being released more steadily on BD here in the U.S. But now I feel the time is finally right for me to move up as far as my anime/movie viewing experience…

What are the most “least known” anime that you’ve ever watched?

Ever since the flourishing of anime online in the past five or so years, which allows fans around the world to follow Japan’s otakudom in real time and know every single anime that comes out each season, it’s hard to find anime nowadays that no one is watching or discussing. I’m one who usually follows all the popular and most discussed series. I know some fans watch obscure, unpopular titles all the time, but for me, I haven’t seen many old or niche anime so the number of little known titles I have under my belt is virtually nil. However, there are a handful of anime that I’ve watched during my 11+ years as a fan that I’ve hardly seen anyone mention. So today, I’ll be giving brief shout-outs to five of the most “least known” anime that I’ve watched…

My condolences to Japan and reflections on natural disasters

I’ve never seen Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 but I know it’s appropriate right now

I rarely do news posts since I can’t get them out promptly and there are many others far more skilled at gathering up-to-date information and links than I am. But since the recent disaster in Japan hit so close to home (in my heart I mean), I just couldn’t ignore it…
