How I spent my summer vacation…and returning to blogging!

Feels good to be back! As many of you know, I put Mainichi Anime Yume on hiatus at the end of May, returning only briefly in July for my Anime Expo coverage. But now that September has come and I start my fall semester of school tomorrow, I figured it’s time to get back into the swing of blogging! After the jump below, I discuss what kinds of posts and blogging schedule I have planned, as well as what my non-blogging self has been up to these past few months…

Summer hiatus and announcements

After 5 straight years of consistent blogging, rarely going more than a week without a new post, I finally have to put MAY on hiatus for an extended period of time. As for why that is and when you can expect to see a new post again, read on…

How I write and enjoy anime reviews

Credit to linked pixiv user

Since I just finished writing a bunch of anime reviews over the past few posts, I figured now is a good time to bring up this topic that I’m sure anyone who reads and/or writes anime reviews has thought about: what makes them enjoy reading certain kinds of reviews over others, and if they write reviews themselves, what kind of voice and structure do they give their reviews…

Anime blogging and evolving as a writer

Having been dedicated to writing about anime online for over a decade now, it’s no surprise that my style as a writer has evolved over the course of those years. Kai on deluscar wrote a post last month about how he’s also evolved as a writer thanks to a passion for writing about anime, which inspired me to share my experiences in writing and how my anime hobby has helped shaped me as a writer…

Six years of anime blogging

Credit to linked pixiv user

A little over a month ago, Mainichi Anime Yume turned six years old. Unfortunately I was too busy in early October with getting settled in my new job to remember, so all I managed to do was a quick tweet about it last week. But I did eventually want to write something about being one of the long-lasting anime bloggers, and since I don’t want to repeat what I wrote about when the blog turned five years old last year, I thought I’d do something a little different and take a brief look at how I got started with blogging in the first place…

Growing up in a world of fandoms

One thing that I’ve often thought about is how our generation is the first to experience full immersion in the technological media world from childhood to adulthood. If you were born in the 80s or later, you’re among the first generation of kids to grow up in the media-centered world of cable TV, video games, video rentals, and most importantly, the Internet. Anime is one among many fandoms that have been able to flourish because of this sudden proliferation of technology we’ve seen come about in just a couple of decades…

Spoilers in anime reviewing

In a recent post on EmptyBlue, Feal87 discusses the issue of spoilers in anime review blogs, particularly how to make spoiler-free episodic posts and post titles. Since I only write full series reviews of anime, I thought it would be interesting to address the topic of spoilers in regards to those kinds of posts, and for anime reviewing in general…

10 years of AnimeYume

This past June 30th marked the 10-year anniversary of my domain name, AnimeYume.com. I would have mentioned it sooner, but as usual around that time of year, I was busy with Anime Expo and writing my reviews of completed seasonal anime. I decided that today would be a good day to post about it since, while Mainichi Anime Yume is only 6 years old, this is the blog’s 600th post…

The episodic blog and the editorial blog

In hind-sight of the recently completed 2nd Aniblog Tourney, chikorita157 wrote a post regarding the ever common argument that arises when talking about anime blogs – which is better, episodic blogs that post reviews of episodes of whatever seasonal series the blogger is watching, or editorial blogs that post about anime topics in general…
