The spring ’08 season so far

Right now I’ve seen about 11 episodes from each of the spring anime shows I’m currently watching. I know some of the spring shows are scheduled to end in the next week or two, but most of the ones I’m watching will continue to run for at least 25 episodes. When the spring season started, I was too busy with schoolwork to write any initial reviews of them, so now, before the summer season kicks into gear, I felt I should write a little something about each one…

Haruhi Suzumiya: masterpiece, piece of junk or simply overrated?

This is the “Question of the Week” for the Hey, Answerman column on Anime News Network. I usually don’t have the time or motivation to submit my own answers to things like this. But…since I’m on vacation now and I was kinda bored today, I decided to give this question a try. I’ve been rather Haruhi-obsessed this past year so I probably could’ve written a lot more than this but I didn’t want to overdo it XD Hopefully Zac will post my response, and if not, at least I used it as a blog post so it wasn’t a total waste ^^a You can check ANN next week to see other answers to the question. Anyway, here’s my (kinda long) answer…

The end of Inuyasha

After 12 years, 56 volumes, and over 550 chapters, the final chapter of the Inuyasha manga (chapter 558) has been released, completing Rumiko Takahashi’s longest series. I’ve been avidly following the Inuyasha story since the anime was released in the US in 2002, and although its been one of my favorites for many years, I’m both relieved and a bit sad that it’s finally over…

Bleach movie: Memories of Nobody US theatrical release

Last night I went with my one of my friends to see the US theatrical premier of the first Bleach movie at a theater in Woodland Hills, CA. Like the US premier of the Death Note live-action movies back in May, Viz premiered the English dub of the Bleach movie for two nights (June 11th and 12th) at a few select theaters across the country…

True Tears review

I finally finished True Tears today…and I’m sure many will agree that it’s definitely one of the most special series’ to come out recently. Despite it technically being a harem/dating anime, it has qualities that put it above average in this genre. Even though there’s virtually no action nor major accomplishments in it, I found True Tears a joy to watch because of its calming atmosphere, gentle pacing, and dramatic but not too angst-ridden scenes.

Two underrated series that I recently rewatched

Can you tell what they are by these ambiguous screencaps?

Most great anime series usually get the recognition they deserve by fans. Evangelion, Code Geass, Air, Azumanga Daioh, Death Note, Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Alchemist, etc., have all received much deserved popularity for being credible fan favorites and overall brilliant shows, whether it be through fansubs, DVDs, or TV airings. I’m glad that many fans agree on what makes an anime series good, but of course, there are a handful of series that are excellent and yet don’t get the kind of recognition they deserve. I recently rewatched two such series so now that they’re both fresh in my mind, I feel like writing about why I think these two shows are so great…

Kanon(2006): the halfway mark review

As I said in my first impression review of Kanon(2006), I have not seen the previous 2002 series and knew nothing much about Kanon before I started watching it. After watching the first couple of episodes, I thought the show was okay but it didn’t particularly catch my interest. But now that I’ve watched 13 episodes of it, I have to say that I have a lot more respect for it.

Yu-Gi-Oh! the Abridged Series: the best thing on YouTube!

First of all, for those of you who’ve seen the YGO Abridged Series on YouTube, I’m sure you’ll agree that it definitely deserves all the praise I’m about to give it and that LittleKuriboh has done ingenious work on it. But for those of you who’ve never seen it, whether you love Yu-Gi-Oh! or hate it, there’s a good chance you’ll still find the Abridged Series absolutely hilarious…

All of Cardcaptor Sakura for only $75!

Despite the major anime fan I am, I only buy anime DVDs once in a while. Most of my money goes towards other anime products, such as posters, calendars, keychains, plushies, etc,. I think this is because I only like to buy box sets and they can be pretty expensive. And I’ll usually only buy DVDs of a series if I’m sure I’ll like it(if I’m gonna spend that much of my hard-earned money, I want it to be worth it =P) But every now and then I’ll treat myself to an anime box set, so when I found out about this awesome holiday deal at AnimeNation, I just couldn’t pass it up!

Asatte no Houkou: a sweet and simple series

When I first started watching Asatte no Houkou, I could tell that it was different and I liked it, but at the same time, I thought it would get boring pretty soon because there didn’t seem to be enough of a story to it to keep it interesting. But now that I’ve watched over half of the episodes(there’s 12 episodes total I believe), I felt that I just have to give it the praise it deserves, especially after watching episode 8.
