The most popular anime series of the spring 2009 season comes to an end, at least for now…

Kemono no Souja Erin (Beast Harpist Erin) first began airing on NHK in January of this year and is scheduled for a 50 episode run. The series is based on novels by Seirei no Moribito creator Nahoko Uehashi, with animation by Production I.G. Personally, after seeing only 17 out of 50 episodes so far, I think KnSE is one of the best quality TV anime I’ve seen in recent years, both in storytelling quality, and the animation aesthetics are not too shabby either. Unfortunately, I also feel it’s one of the most underrated series of the year since, when compared to just about all other current anime, hardly anyone is talking about it or watching it…

Although it was one of the shortest anime TV series to air recently, I feel it’s definitely one of the best…

The Clannad saga finally comes to an end, at least for now. The first Clannad series was touching, but in my opinion, After Story is where the series really shines…

I was hesitant, but I finally watched the last episode of Toradora! a couple of nights ago. And thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised that it pulled off a fairly good ending…

Michiko to Hatchin was one of the more unique anime to come out in the past few years. It doesn’t fall into the genre of wish-fulfilling fantasy or harem comedy that are so common nowadays in anime. Although it could be classified as simply an action/adventure series, it has the same kind of radical style and unconventional feel that made Cowboy Bebop stand out. You’ll find little to no blatant fan-pandering scenes or stereotypical anime archetypes in Michiko to Hatchin; like Cowboy Bebop, the ingenuity of its art, music, and setting are what make it appealing…

Although I only had time to watch a small handful of all the anime that aired in 2008, I enjoyed pretty much all the ones I watched. But of course, while some simply came and went, there were a few that really stood out and reminded me why I like anime so much. So I decided to kick off the new year with a look back at the five 2008 anime that I liked the most…

Kannagi wasn’t on my original list of “to watch” anime for the fall ‘08 season, but once I saw how popular it became, I just had to see what all the fuss was about! XD So I spent the past few days of my winter break marathon-ing through the 13 episodes. And now that I’ve seen it all, I must admit that Kannagi is deserving of its popularity…

Since I enjoyed Visual Art’s/Key’s other two series, Air and Kanon, and since I adore KyotoAni’s work, I decided to start watching Clannad when the first season aired last fall. Unlike Air and Kanon, Clannad not only got an additional OVA, but now it’s going through its sequel this fall with Clannad – After Story. And luckily, 12 episodes into Clannad AS, and I’m happy to report that it has all the charm and emotion that made the first season so good…

As of now, I am 12 episodes through Toradora!, which is roughly half of this 25 episode series. When news of this anime based on award-winning light novels first came out, it was one of the most highly anticipated series for the fall 2008 season. So I decided to watch it and see if it was worth all the hype. And it didn’t take more than the first two episodes for me to get hooked…
