When the winds of changes shift…

Sorry I’ve been so absent from blogging the past few weeks. There’s a reason for it, which I’ll explain later in the post as I have an important announcement to make about my future blogging schedule…

As some of you may know from my recent posts, since I’m not taking any summer classes, I decided to start looking for a job. Much to my surprise, after applying for a few last week, two of them decided to hire me! Obviously I had to choose one of them, so I chose the one I liked the best and my first day is this coming Monday. It’s a full-time job, which means I’m going to be much busier than I’ve been in a long time, which in turn means that I won’t be able to have any kind of consistent blogging schedule.

I don’t want to say that I won’t blog at all now that I’m working…it’ll just be sporadic, whenever I feel like it. And unfortunately, another reason for this new blogging schedule is something that I also expressed recently: I’ve just been running out of ideas and am experiencing a burnout in terms of writing about anime. As you guys know, I mostly like writing editorial posts, or other types of posts occasionally, and over the past few months I’ve been finding it harder and harder to come up with fresh topics I feel motivated to write about. Whenever I think I’ve come up with a blog topic, it’s either “I wrote about that already” or “I don’t feel like writing about that.” I also haven’t been quite as enthused with anime in general recently. I still consider myself a fan and am keeping up with my seasonal shows – it’s just been taking a backseat to my other interests. I’ve been feeling this way since earlier this year actually, as I mentioned in my birthday post, but it’s really hit hard over the past few weeks.

So what does this all mean in terms of the future of Mainichi Anime Yume? Well, like I said, this is not a 100% hiatus for the blog. I still have some motivation to write reviews of seasonal anime, as well as coverage of the conventions I’m going to this summer, and occasional other topics if/when they pop up in my head. So now my blogging schedule is simply going to be “When I have the time and motivation.” I might be able to post a couple of weeks in a row, and then not again for several months…it’s just gonna be random depending on what’s going on with me at that time. But again, I’ll always be around on Twitter tweeting things here and there, either related to real life or related to anime/blogging, so make sure to follow me there if you want to know when I have new posts or what’s been new in my life =)

And of course, nothing is certain. I could find out after my first month, week, or even day at the new job that it won’t work out for me for whatever reason. But I’m confident that won’t be the case and that it’s going to be the first step to a great career. For those of you who have been sticking with the blog even as it’s been fading a bit over the past few months, I really appreciate your support and hope you’ll continue to stay tuned whenever new posts crop up. Until then, see you all sometime in the far or near future…

This is great to hear! I’m job-hunting myself, needing money before I start uni, so I can relate to the worries of blogging less and what that might do for my readership (even though mine’s barely started xD).

Whenever I’m stuck for something to write about, I try to find something I disagree with and help that spur my opinions into ones I care about. Reading negative reviews of Angel Beats! always gets me critically fired up. ^^

    • Yumeka says:

Thanks, good luck finding a job and starting uni. I was lucky that I got almost a full scholarship, so I didn’t have to work when I was earning my B.A. and could just concentrate on being a full-time student, which still kept me plenty busy!

If you haven’t read them already, perhaps you’d be interested in the posts I wrote about Angel Beats! back in 2010 ;) (even though I recognize that it has flaws, I still love AB! and consider it one of my favorites).

What a coincidence! I finished a couple of sessions about career counseling and one of the people at my school offered me a paid internship opportunity. I’ve also been working on building a portfolio and resume.

Well, whatever happens, I wish you luck with your new job!

    • Yumeka says:

That’s great! I hope the gig works out for you! =D

Thanks for being a supportive reader on my blog, too. I hope you’ll still be around whenever I have new posts in the future.

Congrats on getting a job, it seems that the job market is getting better from the looks of it. As for me, the OPM (Office of Personnel Management) already started the security clearance investigation that is required for the job so my start date and moving (which I’m in the process of getting a townhouse) will probably happen some time next month.

I kind of feel the same way, although I always have video game reviews and I still cover anime on a weekly basis now. With editorials, it’s becoming somewhat difficult to come up with a good topic to write about that I haven’t covered, At this point, I pretty much covered everything regarding the fandom, which leaves me of thematic editorials of certain shows or any topics that comes into my mind. Writer’s block is something that is difficult to overcome and of course people tend to burn themselves out trying to come up with new ideas. The only cure for it is to do something else or perhaps interact with other people or read other posts to come with potential ideas. Probably one of the ways one can achieve this is have other people ask questions as others seem to do on twitter with services like ask.fm. You might come across something interesting to write about while answering questions, although some of them are not usually related to Anime/Manga/whatever.

Aside from that, I wish you luck.

    • Yumeka says:

Once again, I really hope this job works out for you! =) If it does, you’ll be one of the lucky ones who just steps right out of college and into the perfect career without ever having to know the pain of a thankless minimum wage job XD I’m guessing you’ll be renting a townhouse? Or will you be able to afford buying your own (with roommates?)

I’ve though of doing ask.fm or something similar, but then I see the kinds of crazy things people ask XD Maybe one day. And yeah, I might end up writing more about non-anime things…perhaps even open up a side-blog if I get really motivated. We’ll see.

I’m in the process of getting a mortgage to buy one since rent costs about the same or more than buying. I plan on living there more than 3 years or more depending on the future holds. In short, I’m living alone although my parents plan on coming by once in a while.

Creating a side blog is probably a good idea. I still have mine, but I haven’t written anything since there is nothing else to write about, except technology and other things. Maybe I should update it more often… we’ll see.

Congrats on the new job! (Like a lot of the other commentors, I’m also looking for a job right now, so I can really relate.) I’ve been reading your blog for a long time but never commented before. Just wanted to say that your posts are always very insightful and fun to read. Writer’s block and burnout can be pretty hard to beat, and I agree with you that it’s better to take a step back, take a short break, and have a change of pace sometimes.

No matter what happens, I wish you the best of luck with everything!

    • Yumeka says:

Thanks for being a dedicated reader ^_^ I appreciate it a lot, whether you leave comments or not. I’m flattered that you’ve found my posts insightful and fun.

      Good luck with job-hunting!

  5. Myna says:

Congrats! I just got hired as well! Here’s to both of us! Best of luck to you and I look forward to your annual convention coverages.

    • Yumeka says:

Yes, best of luck to both of us! Hopefully you’ll step out of college and into a great career without having to spend years at menial jobs like I have since I graduated. And start saving up for that trip to California! XD

  6. Kai says:

Really glad for you that you are able to get a job, seems pretty easily too, lol. Good luck :)

As for posts, I had been doing the same for awhile, just write whenever I feel like it, which could be really consistent, or sometimes I could be gone for weeks (it had never went longer than 3 weeks so far, at least). I also prefer editorials but I also seem like I’m dangerously running out of topics to talk about :\ I do have a few reviews I want to write about.

    • Yumeka says:

Yes, I think the skills I learned these past couple of school semesters may be paying off!

Thinking back, I don’t know how I managed to write so consistently back in the day, especially from 2010-2013. I don’t think I was ever late with blogging during those years! So maybe I was writing too much then, which is why I’ve run out of topics already XD But yeah, I really need a break with all that’s going on, and maybe once some time has passed I’ll have a whole bunch of new topics built up and be able to work out a schedule again.

  7. I am sure we all understand. Or at least, I do understand. Blogging takes time and with your career that might not allow you time for aniblogging. No worries I feel indebted to you and that is the reason I follow the blog. Get out there again sometime. I will be looking forward to any new posts. Bye for now, Yumeka.

    • Yumeka says:

Thanks for the kind words ^_^ I’m hoping I won’t be so busy that I won’t be able to blog ever, even when I want to. I’m sure I’ll find time to post things I want eventually even if not right away. So yes, I prefer “bye for now” as opposed to “farewell forever” XD I hope to be back before everyone forgets about me~

  8. Ivette says:

Im feeling the burnout of ideas on the blog, just remember that creativity can never run out. Hope you feel more excited to talk about anime x ^_^

    • Yumeka says:

Thanks. I don’t feel my creativity running out too much…I have thought of making a side blog for my other interests if I suddenly get motivated to write about non-anime things, which is a possibility. We’ll see =)

  9. Rioraku says:

Congrats on the job. I can relate to life being very busy as I recently moved to a new city and am also job hunting! As for your blog, I’ve been a fan since the main site and don’t plan on giving up on this now so I’ll be here patiently waiting for any posts. Barring that I know I can sometimes find you on Twitter if I feel like getting my butt kicked in Pokemon XD

    • Yumeka says:

Thanks for being one of my dedicated readers all these years ^_^ I appreciate your support a lot. I enjoy our Pokemon battles too. I admire your enthusiasm despite not being able to score a win yet…but I have a feeling you’ll beat me soon enough XD

  10. Kal says:

Good luck in your new job! And take it easy. This blog should be a hobby and done for fun, so do it only when you have fun with it :) So I’ll still check back on your page from time to time, and see you then!

    • Yumeka says:

Thanks so much for being one of my best readers and commenters all these years XD I’m happy to hear that you’ll continue to stay tuned for new content no matter how long it takes.

  11. Pann says:

Congrats on the job!! I hope it’s going well! Life sure gets intense as we get older, so don’t worry about not blogging as much. I can relate with the losing interest in anime a little bit, while I never made a blog about anime, over the years it’s harder to find stuff I like. I’d be interested in seeing any side blogs you do, since I’ve always loved your writing and have followed your blog and old website for a really long time. Good luck with everything!

    • Yumeka says:

Thanks for being a dedicated reader ^_^ It always makes my day knowing that someone has stuck with me all these years because they enjoy my writing.

The job is going well so far =) Not sure when I’ll be able to blog again but hopefully at least once or twice before the summer is over to get up my convention coverage!

  12. Tara says:

Congrats on the job! I hope it goes well for you there, having one that you like is always great ^^ I hope you have lots of fun there and enjoy the summer.

I’ll keep checking your blog occasionally, although I don’t read blogs often yours is the one I’ve been reading the longest so I’ll always drop by :) Maybe I’ll actually use that twitter account I made several years ago and follow you haha

    • Yumeka says:

Thanks as always for being one of my most supportive fans ^_^ I appreciate your readership all these years and I’m glad you’ll continue to check on me now and then ;)

And yes, please follow me on Twitter! Send me a tweet if you do so I’ll know it’s you and I can follow you back.

I’m an once in a while follower of your blog.
One day in the Old School Anime Club from MAL, someone posted your topic about “When is an anime “too old” for us”. Everybody panned your opinion but i was like “whatcha talkin about fools!”, “he” nailed the issue!
So I bookmarked your blog and i return ever since then. But I don’t come here everyday, not even every week, so having less posts isn’t too bad for me ;)
What I really hope is that you won’t give up your blog and won’t let it die and vanish into the emptiness of the web. Are you posting just once a month? Twice a year? It’s ok, just keep it going, for the rest of us, miserable lazy and selfish lurkers :)
As for topics, i’m sure there still are several topics which deserve attention, you just need to be ready to notice them when they pop up. Like the magic of the episode 16…
Anyway, ganbatte and keep on rockin’ d(^^)b

p.s. to me Forever Young will always be the Alphaville song xD
p.s.s. Good luck for your job, luck hasn’t anything to do with it, but it’s always nice to say this or other people will think i’m a bastard who didn’t congratulated you xDD

    • Yumeka says:

I had no idea that post of mine found its way to MAL XD I’m glad you found it interesting though and that it brought you to my blog. Thanks for stopping by from time to time ^_^

I can’t say how often I’ll post, but I’m pretty sure it’ll be more than twice a year at least…hopefully! Thanks again for the kind words too~

And by the way, I’m a “she” not a “he” ;)

  14. (Late to the party again, as usual…)

Congratulations, Yumeka! I’m sure you’ll thrive and prosper! Remember to have fun while you learn and toil… and even if your blog posts are few and far between… as long as you continue to watch anime, you’ll be just fine!

    • Yumeka says:

Thanks! I hope I end up enjoying my job as much as you seem to like yours =) (and if I can reach a point where I starting making a salary I can comfortably live on, that would be great too XD)

I’m definitely gonna have to cut down on the number of anime I watch each season, but I don’t plan on stopping altogether. Maybe 3-4 per season would be good.
