Plans for Anime Expo 2013 (and brief hiatus)

For those of you who have been following my site for a while, you know that Anime Expo is the big anime convention I attend each year. I’ve been going every year since 2005…well, minus 2006 and 2009 because I was in Japan =P So this year will be my seventh Anime Expo. However, a couple of things will make this year different. First, this will be the first time I’ll be staying the full five days, arriving on Day 0, July 3rd, and not leaving until the end of Day 4, July 7th. And secondly, this will be the first time I’ll have Internet access while I’m there, which means I’ll be able to live-tweet things I see and do via Twitter. But as a result of my staying the full five days and my current work schedule (and I won’t be blogging while I’m at the con), I’ll have to have a brief hiatus since I won’t be able to blog again for at least a week and a half from now. But don’t worry, you can look forward to my full coverage of the con, as well as my reviews of the anime that are finishing this season, in the weeks after. My planned schedule for AX and more info after the jump…

As usual, I plan out a bunch of stuff I want to do at the con but always end up not doing a few things I planned XD I’m sure this year will be no different, but for now, here’s my itinerary:

July 3rd, Day 0

1:00-3:00: Check into my hotel and get in line for registration, which opens at 3:00. Even though I already paid for a regular attendee badge, I’m gonna see if I can switch to a press badge this year since I think I can qualify due to my site, and you get good perks with it

– After I get my badge, I’ll just hang out with friends and take a swim in my hotel pool since there’s nothing much to do on Day 0

July 4th, Day 1

10:00-2:00: Lining up for the Exhibit Hall/Artist Alley and going on a shopping spree once it opens at 12:00 =)
2:00-4:00: Meetups planned with friends
5:00-6:00: Noizi Ito autograph session
6:30-7:30: VIZ presents Inside the Anime Industry
7:30-8:30: Johnny Young Bosch panel

July 5th, Day 2

9:45-10:45: Weiss Schwarz TCG and Bushiroad panel
11:45-12:45: premiere of the Sword Art Online dub (episodes 1-2)
2:00-3:00: Johnny Young Bosch autograph session
3:00-7:00: Weiss Schwarz tournament
5:15-6:15: Noizi Ito panel

July 6th, Day 3

11:15-1:00: George Wada/Attack on Titan panel
2:00: Wreck-It Ralph cosplay gathering
2:30-3:30: Another Noizi Ito autograph session in case I want two :3
3:00: Attack on Titan cosplay gathering
5:30-7:30: Nihongo de OK

July 7th, Day 4

10:00-3:00: Pokemon TCG tournament
12:00: My Little Pony cosplay gathering
1:00-3:30: Ito has another autograph session at this time, so I might go to it if I couldn’t get her autograph at any of the prior ones

– I’m hoping to leave the con around late afternoon on Day 4, though I will try to squeeze in last-day Exhibit Hall bargains and maybe another swim in the pool

And just to give them a shout-out, below are other bloggers I know who will be going to AX this year. I’m sure they’ll be posting their own coverage of the con too so check ’em out:

When I first saw the AX schedule, I was pissed because the two events I was most looking forward to – Noizi Ito’s panel and the Weiss Schwarz tournament – are going on at the same time on Day 2 >_< That's rotten luck on my part. I'm gonna see if I can juggle going to both, for example, if I can get my matches in the tourney scheduled in a way that they won't conflict with going to the panel. But most likely I won't be able to attend both, so depending on whether I'm able to get Ito's autograph the day before, I might be satisfied enough with that and may skip her panel...not sure though. It's a tough decision XD Anyway, as I said, even though I'll be away from blogging for a while, I'll try to tweet here and there while I'm at the convention, as well as tweet updates of when my next new post will be. When I do get around to it, it will either be my reviews of the seasonal anime that I'll be finishing (Karneval, OreImo 2, Hataraku Maou-sama! and Suisei no Gargantia) or my Anime Expo coverage...haven't decided which to do first. But it should be up sometime during the week of July 8th-14th. See you all then~! And if you're also going to AX and you see me, feel free to say hi! *Side Note*: My domain name, AnimeYume.com, turns 11 years old tomorrow~ ^__^

I am SO BEHIND on my spring season shows – too many work hours and other things going on. Will have to try to marathon them in the next week.

    Happy birthday to Mainichi!

I’m so jealous! I will have to live vicariously through you for this con. Hope you have lots of fun!

  6. Marina says:

My schedule is looking similarly packed like yours. I have no idea how I’m going to get to everything with all the crowds and lines, but I’m going to try my hardest >< I'm also having to get into more autograph lines this time around since I'm getting some for my hotel room organizer in exchange for a free room. I can't really complain, but I am a bit intimidated about the whole process of waiting in line for a guest, giving them something to sign or "sketch" (I'm still unclear on this), and whatever small talk you can or can't make. Any advice?

I'm hoping that somewhere in our busy schedules we're able to meet up. It doesn't look like we'll be hitting very many of the same panels except for the Attack on Titan one. I'm glad to see you'll have a smart phone available, although I recall the reception in the center being pretty poor.

I actually haven’t been to an autograph sessions since AX07 (which was at a different location), so I’m sort of new to it too XD You just gotta get there as early as possible and if you can, go to the guest’s panel too so then you’ll have a chance at winning a ticket to get a better place in line. And apparently they’ll sign anything as long as it’s an official product.

I still have your number in my phone so give me a call if you’d like to hang out. I’m planning a meet up with friends at 2:30pm on Day 1 near the entrance to West Hall if you’re interested in coming.

  7. Hiroi Sekai says:

Heya, thanks for popping on a mention for me here! Did you have fun at AX? Get to everything you wanted?
