Sora no Woto first impressions

Two episodes into Sora no Woto and it’s pretty much what I expected…

SnW has been constantly compared to K-ON!, at least in the looks of the characters. I’ve heard it amusingly being called “military” or “army K-ON!” I agree with omo that it has attributes which are reminiscent of other series. For me personally, it has animation like Kannagi (same studio after all), characters with designs and personalities like K-ON!, a setting like Haibane Renmei, and a bit of RahXephon with its music theme.

The first two episodes have merely introduced the characters and very little has yet been explained about the history and politics of the setting. Therefore it’s hard to say at this point just how innovative SnW will be. So far the characters have pretty predictable, stereotypical personalities, but I’m sure at least some unique traits will come out in them as time goes on. Despite being a show that featuring characters in the army, it’s pretty gentle and slow-paced, which could be one if its appealing traits actually. With a military theme, it has the potential for action and violence despite these cute and light first episodes. We’ll see if both sides come out or if it will continue with the light, gentle side.

Having above average animation and music can greatly influence an anime’s appeal, and SnW has both. The classical sounding background music caught my attention right away, and the opening and ending songs are not too shabby either. The pretty, detailed background art is noticeably good too.

That’s all I can say about Sora no Woto at this point. It’s the type of series where I don’t want to make strong judgments about it until I’ve seen more. I’m hoping to see character development and plot exposition soon. And I won’t mind whether the series features some action and drama or whether it continues with its slow, gentle pace.

military theme, but it’s genre is musical (thought)

SRNWT is actually the series I have the highest expectations of for this season. Yes there are numerous similarities to K-on (and similarly I wished there were some male main characters), but I found the tone more serious, and the music was definitely different and great. The setting is intriguing, and I’m hoping for a good solid plot with at least some mild action.
Noel is my fav char so far x)
