12 moments of anime 2009: #10 New Inuyasha anime

Continuing with my 12 moments of anime for 2009 (in order of significance to me personally), here’s #10:

Twelve Anime Moments of 2009: #10: New Inuyasha anime

Inuyasha is the only long-running series for which I’ve seen all the anime episodes and read all 558 chapters of the manga. The original 167-episode anime finishing airing in Japan in 2004 and finishing airing on Adult Swim in 2006. Since then, fans have been impatient and frustrated about how the anime ended without any conclusion while the manga continued on. In October 2006, I wrote a post about why Inuyasha should have a new TV anime and, throughout the past three years, it’s received over 130 comments by passionate fans begging for more episodes. Finally, in October 2009, five years after the first anime ended in Japan, Sunrise decided to make 26 more Inuyasha episodes to cover the rest of the manga chapters.

Since the manga ended over a year ago, Inuyasha fandom has been slowly dying, but the new Final Act (Kanketsu-hen) anime series is reviving it. I agree with many fans that the new anime is rushing through the last bunch of chapters too quickly, but at least we finally have new Inuyasha after all these years. It will probably never be the success it once was in the U.S., but since I was an Inuyasha fanatic for many years, it will always be special to me =)

  1. Leaving the InuYasha story just the way as Ms. Rumiko did it in her manga is enough satisfaction for me. Knowing that it has a great conclusion made me fell great and happier as I live my life. InuYasha series has changed my life a lot.. . .it has a great influence on me. It has taught me the acts of Kagome’s love for InuYasha and InuYasha’s affections for either Kikyo or Kagome. . . .all the emotions were comprised in this one anime. .the anime has all the elements of emotions I could think of and Ms. Rumiko showed it to his audience through each character:

    InuYasha – Transformation
    Kagome – Forgiveness
    Kikyo – Renewal
    Shippo – Cuteness
    Miroku – Bravery
    Sango – Strength
    Kohaku – Acceptance
    Koga – Competitiveness
    Naraku – Hatred
    Sesshoumaru – Compassion
    Rin – Faithfulness

It may not be the best anime in the world out there. .. especially when almost every year, Japanese animators always come out with new animation from talented manga creators . …For me. . .it’ll always be number one in my heart . . . .

If ever InuYasha is continued by the Japanese animators, I wouldn’t think that it would be better than Ms. Rumiko’s original series . .I mean, what would be InuYasha’ conflict then . .? Who would Kagome be jealous with now that Kikyo’s never coming back? And I don’t want the jewel of the four souls to be there again ….I don’t want any upcoming episodes that has something to do with that jewel . . . it’ll be soooo much anticipated!

What I adore most about this series is that I never anticipated the story or the plot itself to go exactly the way Ms. Rumiko told the story to be. She has exceeded my story expectations for the series that I learned and have loved it so much for since finished the manga and the animation. There’s always something good from watching the InuYasha animation because you can relate your situation to the characters of the anime. . ..
