Haruhi season 2 episode 12: The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya (part 3)

“The Sigh” continues…

As many will agree, “The Sigh” is probably the most uninteresting of all the Haruhi stories, so once again I don’t have too much to say about part 3. KyoAni seems to really be taking their time with this story, most likely to fill in the remaining episodes in the 14 count. It’s still following the novels pretty well with only minor differences. They’re also disregarding how to normally begin and end episodes, literally starting and ending the episodes of “The Sigh” exactly where one ends and another begins without any sort of transition or recapping. I guess this isn’t a bad thing, since recapping can get boring and time consuming in a long story arc, but it is unusual. Chalk up another unique Haruhi attribute XD

One thing that stood out with part 3 was obviously the Mikuru Beam. Those who never read the novels finally saw what it really did, and why Yuki jumped on Mikuru way back in the season 1 episode of the movie itself. I really liked how they did this scene in the anime, making the beam very subtle yet showing how Yuki was able to catch it and how it split Itsuki’s reflector board. This episode also finally brought out the sci-fi element of the story, namely Haruhi using her power to blend the movie’s fiction into reality.

The scene right before the Mikuru Beam fires, where Kyon has to yank Haruhi away from Mikuru, was actually way more dramatic than it was in the novels. There’s a similar scene like this later on, where Kyon has a heated argument with Haruhi about what she did to Mikuru. I won’t spoil anything but I hope they don’t decide to mess with that scene too much.

Guess that’s all I have to say about part 3. Next week will be the pond scene and Tsuruya-san, Taniguchi, and Kunikida will get their long awaited screen time.

    Easily the best episode so far for this arc… :)
    I must admit that part where Kyon yank Haruhi for poor Mikuru gave me some creepy moments…very dramatic… Nice Boat…Nah, but some vibes I got there.

    Cant wait for next week´s episode….it seems this arc looks more interesting on anime form after all.

    I was rather entertained by the visual element of a teeny tiny contact lens changing the color of Mikuru’s entire anime-sized eye, especially since the lens wouldn’t even cover her pupil.

    @Akikura

    LOL, that’s a good point. Maybe it stretches XD
