Haruhi season 2 episode 10: The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya (part 1)

The harrowing two months of “Endless Eight” have finally come to an end. Now we move on to the next story arc, “The Sigh”…

I was unable to write my weekly reviews for the last three Haruhi episodes because I was away in Japan and did not have the time. I was relieved to hear that “Endless Eight” finally ended, cleverly at eight episodes, so my frustration with it is starting to subside. The seven episode build-up made the ending of the eighth and final episode all the more suspenseful and dramatic. As a whole, I really enjoyed the final “Endless Eight” episode and a few of the others. But although I kind of appreciate what KyoAni was trying to go for with repeating it eight times, it really was a little too much, especially for fans who have waited three years for a new season.

But anyway, still continuing in chronological order, now we have “The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya,” which comprises the entire volume 2 of the novels and shows in detail how the “Mikuru Asahina’s Adventure Episode 00” movie was made.

Having read all of the novels thus far, “The Sigh” is probably my least favorite of all the stories. I don’t dislike it, but I just like the others better. As much as I love Haruhi, I felt like she was at her worst in this story, and I especially feel bad for poor Mikuru later on. But in this episode, things were just getting started and the actual filming of the movie will probably start next week. After so much “Endless Eight,” it’s nice to finally watch a real new episode and be back in the SOS Brigade clubroom with their usual antics. As always, Haruhi’s expressions and Kyon’s reactions are a joy to watch XD I’m looking forward to Shamisen’s introduction later on, perhaps even next week (me being a cat person and all =P) People who haven’t read the novels have probably been wondering about him since the first airing three years ago, so now we can finally see where the talking kitty came from.

That’s pretty much all I have to say about the first part of “The Sigh” since nothing much happened. The episode ended abruptly (did it just cut Mikuru off in mid-sentence?), but that’s just like Haruhi XD Unfortunately, with the pace “The Sigh” is going at and only 4 episodes left in the new season, there’s no way there’ll be enough time for “The Disappearance” as well, which is what a lot of fans have been looking forward too. But, trying to be optimistic, maybe we’ll get a sudden extension of new episodes in this season, or perhaps a third season will come sooner than expected.

I agree with you, I don’t like Sigh as much as the others. I wouldn’t mind, except I was soooooo looking forward to Disappearance. THANKS, Kadokawa, for adapting my LEAST favorite light novel instead of my MOST favorite. I really appreciate it. I’M the one who’s sighing here…

    Sigh.

Though Haruhi is aggressive and short tempered, i think she’s one of those Rei Hino characters who acts mean but deep down cares about everyone a lot. Yeah, im feeling u guys about the Sigh not being ur cups of tea(never watched or read before, yet read plots and reviews), but i can’t give up on my favorite anime along with Sailor Moon and Lucky Star.
