My fall season ’08 picks

As I count down the last few weeks of my summer break, I’m also counting the anime I’m planning to watch this fall season. I think I might be watching more anime this coming season than I ever did before, mostly because of all the sequels that are coming out. Since I’ll be back at university soon and will not have time to post much about these shows, I figured I’d give a quick rundown now of what I’m planning to watch…

Clannad: After Story

Though I like Air and Kanon better, I enjoyed the first season of Clannad and I’m looking forward to seeing more of the story unfold. And I always enjoy watching any animation by KyotoAni too ^^

Bounen no X’amdou

I’ve liked all the Studio BONES series I’ve seen so I always try and check out their new shows. I think after KyotoAni, I enjoy their animation best =) This series sounds a little bizarre but I’m willing to give it a try.

Gundam 00 Second Season

Besides the first season of Gundam 00, the only other Gundam series I’ve seen is Gundam Seed. I’m not a big mecha fan but I loved Gundam Seed and Gundam 00 was pretty good too. I’ve heard Gundam Seed’s sequel, Gundam Seed Destiny, was very bad so I hope Sunrise does a better job with Gundam 00’s second season.

Hakushaku to Yousei

The only reason I’m gonna check out this series is because the art looks pretty and the story setting sounds unique. Hopefully it’ll be good =)

Lucky Star OVA

I actually didn’t watch Lucky Star during its airing last year. But as I saw how immensely popular it became, I had to watch it and see for myself what its all about. It was only recently that I finally sat down and watched it all and I’m glad I did because I ended up loving it ^^ Just in time for the OVA too!

Seto no Hanayome OVA

In addition to Lucky Star, the other OVA sequel I’m planning to watch is for Seto no Hanayome. The Seto TV series was pretty funny so I’m looking forward to a few more laughs with the OVA =)

This seems to be a pretty talked-about series so I gotta see what it’s about. Although the initial descriptions of the story and characters sound kind of cliche and predictable, anime based on light novels seem to turn out good (and these novels are supposedly award-winning), plus Rie Kugimiya is always great too =) So let’s hope Toradora! lives up to its expectations.

Heheh, I’ll probably check this one out but I don’t know if I’ll keep watching it. I’m just really curious about how Disney and Madhouse are going to handle it. I’ve seen the Lilo & Stitch movie, a couple of the sequel movies, and a little of the American TV series, so I’m really interested to see how this Japanese-made series will compare =) As I pointed out in a previous post, Stitch is just crazily popular in Japan.

Shikabane Hime: Aka

I’m not sure why I want to check out this series…maybe because Gainax is working on it, and the story and art look kind of cool too.

Vampire Knight Guilty

I enjoyed the first season of Vampire Knight so I’m looking forward to continuing the story through this new season. I know some fans of the manga aren’t too pleased with the anime but I don’t mind; the anime is good enough for me =)

In addition to these, I also want to watch the Gurren Lagann movie once the DVD is released and someone uploads a fansub =)

Anyway, I’m pretty sure I’ll be watching most of these, unless it ends up being too much and I have to drop a couple. Luckily a lot of them are not coming out all at once so that should help. For some reason I’m anal about finishing anime that I start even if I’m not thrilled with them XD And as usual, if I see that another series from the new season is getting a lot of praise and popularity, I’ll probably check it out too.

And just to note, I’ll probably only have another 2 or 3 posts after this one before I have to go back to university and put my sites on hiatus for about 3 months. But I just wanted to let you all know that I’ll still be watching lots of new anime even if I’m unable to post about it =)
