What is Anime? – the Visual Definition (take two)

Back in December of last year I began working on my first big anime video project. It’s not an AMV but rather it’s a movie-length compilation of 50 different anime openings along with information about each series. My intention was to use the project as a way to introduce non-anime fans to the variety of anime that exists without them having to take the time to watch a lot of episodes…

This past April I finally got around to uploading the completed project online. Unfortunately since it’s such a long video and an extremely large file I had trouble finding ways to get it posted online so people can easily view it. I tried uploading it onto sendspace and posting it on Veoh but those didn’t prove to be the most effective ways. I also tried using bittorrent but that didn’t work too well either. So although the project became available in April, only a few people have been able to watch the entire thing.

Now that I have some free time during my summer break, I decided to try again at getting the project online where it can be watched or download effectively.

First off, you can get a quick preview of the first 18 minutes of the project on Veoh here:

By the end of those 18 minutes you should have a pretty good idea of how the rest of the project will be (again, my target audience for the project is not specifically anime fans; it’s for anime fans to use to educate non-anime fans)

After seeing the preview, if you want to watch or download the entire 1-hour 46-minute project, there are a few ways you can do it:

1) If you’re a PC user you can download the VeohTV software for free from the Veoh web site. This software will allow you to watch or download the entire video (and any other videos on Veoh). Once you’ve got VeohTV installed, you can watch the first half of the project here and the last half here (both are about 50 minutes each).

2) I recently uploaded the project onto Megaupload (since sendspace didn’t work out). You can download the first half of the project here and the last half here. Both parts are about 240MB each and are WMV files.

3) If you still want to watch the entire project and neither of the above methods work for you, I also made a bittorrent file for the project. You can download the best quality version (about 1GB in size) here or the lower quality version (about 300MB) here. However I’m usually the only one who seeds the files so if you want to get the project via bittorrent and nobody seems to be seeding it, e-mail me, tell me which version you want, and I will seed the file so you can download it.

If you want to find out more information about the project, you can visit its main page on AnimeYume.com here. I hope you enjoy it! ^_^ Please leave any feedback or questions about it in the comments section below.

I remember seeing the first part when you first posted the movie. Very impressionable I might say. My parents aren’t anime fans, and perhaps my cousin and I are the ONLY anime fans of the ENTIRE family. So goes to say, a lot of the members think that anime was either A) A massive porn production (I hate you hentai impressions). B) A sort of subculture no one respected. C) Something that they simply didn’t understand. Well, especially after watching Higurashi my parents thought that anime fans were a bunch of psychos. That didn’t help much. BUT: Your video did help in making some clarifications. Helped in calming their fears that I was becoming obssessed (a little I am), and that it wasn’t a massive problem. Anime is just another hobby seen in their views now. Though, they still don’t get why people watch it. *shrugs* I think your project is pretty neat in any case. Hope your wisdom is shared!

I love your movie! I think it’s a great idea to give non-anime fans a better picture of animes in general.
