Inuyasha ch. 493 review

Volume 50, chapter 493 Resonance

So we’ve finally reached the end of this arc. It didn’t really turn out to be as significant as I thought it would be. Sesshoumaru still doesn’t seem to be satisfied with Tenseiga or with his relationship with his father, even though he made the full Meidou Zangetsuha. Also, Myouga’s line on the last page, about how he “noticed something about the master’s intent” gives the impression that this arc is going to have a follow-up sometime in the future. It seemed like the whole point of the arc was thrown off by these two things. Another flaw was that Shishinki’s characterization wasn’t anything special. Even with his connection to Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru’s father, his personality was just like every other “villain of the week” (and what the heck happened to that kid with the blacked-out eyes?) Anyway, perhaps father’s true intent was to make it so that Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru would have to work together in order to bring out the full power of their swords (or at least Tenseiga does, since apparently the reason Sesshoumaru was able to create the full Meidou Zangetsuha was because Tessaiga was close by).

Anyway, I will say one good thing about this arc. It does show how far Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru have come in their relationship. They went from always fighting to the death every time they saw each other, with Sesshoumaru trying to steal Tessaiga, to trying hard to master their own swords and wanting to find out more of what their father felt for them. I have a feeling this isn’t the last arc we’ll see about Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru, their father, and their swords. And let’s hope the next arc like this will end with Sesshoumaru smiling at Tenseiga and saying “I understand now, Father…” =P
