Kanon eps 1 & 2 Review

I’ve actually never watched the original Kanon series from 2002. But a while back I felt like reading up on what the new fall 2006 anime series’ were going to be about, and after I read about Kanon, it sounded like a very interesting story. Plus I really enjoyed Air, and since it’s by the same company, I figured Kanon should be worth checking out.

These first two episodes have been sitting on my computer for a while before I finally now have the time to watch and review them ^^ Anyway, I can tell that Kanon is a hard show to judge just from the first two episodes. I remember it took a handful of episodes before I really started getting into Air. Actually, the first impression I got was that the characters and “feel” of the show are very similar to Air, as are the opening and ending songs too. But this isn’t a bad thing though, since I know that even if these early episodes seem mediocre, they’re going to lead up to something special =)

These two episodes are pretty much just introductions to the basic story, characters, and setting. Nothing really flashy or action-packed happens(this is not a mainstream show after all =P), but the animation is gorgeous and the music is nice as well. In these episodes, we’re basically just given a mystery to contemplate(though probably not for those who have seen the original Kanon series); why are Yuuichi’s memories from seven years ago so vague, and what is, or was, his relationship with each of the girls he meets. This mystery seems to be what the main plot of the show will revolve around, and I’m interested to see how they’ll unfold.

Again, since these are only the first two episodes, I don’t really have too much else to say about them. Kanon seems like a gentle and pretty show, though like Air, I’m sure later episodes will get very emotional and touching. But I’m definitely interested to see how the series will go, and hopefully it’ll turn out as good as Air did ^_^
